Return of Supporters

City Screwed a lot of fans over today, I went to the ground with my dad today who is 71 to welcome the team bus, (he was stood in the Leezers at SJP in 1968 when we won the league and hitch hiked it with his brother to Vienna 1970 for the CWC Final) We have both had a season tickets for 26 years and have got 21,800 loyalty points each. Today was the first time in his life that he was not present to see Manchester City Lift a Trophy!

We then come home to see Noel Gallagher sat in the stands!

Loyalty points my arse!

I got the tram and was met with a bank of barriers and stewards. Twice the steward tried to read the ticket on the phone but failed. I said, "Look. I have the ticket with my details and my passport to verify it. I can't help it if it doesn't work. " Now whether it worked or not I don't know but the next time he tried he said it was okay. At the turnstile I just put the barcode on the ticket on my phone under the scanner and it worked no problem.

It took me 5 minutes coming in on the tram.
2/3 minutes on Joe Mercer Way.
And then 2/3 minutes after that.
No ID checks and no Covid 19 scans.
Yes I was gobsmacked there was no ID check and not even a thermometer check

I approached from Alan Turing Way. We had to get tickets scanned to gain entry to the stadium perimeter and there was a queue of 2 to 3 hundred fans all packed together like sardines. No pretence whatsoever of distancing.
We were kept in in a holding position crammed together for about 10 minutes before moving on to get tickets scanned.
Tickets then scanned again at turnstile.
At no time was I asked for ID.
Fantastic day out though. Brilliant presentation party, the team played great, Kun got a game and scored twice. If Heineken did last match of the season they could not better this.

In but a shambles. No ID checks but a huge queue to show your questionnaire confirmation mail. The stewards at the gates didn’t know how the e readers worked so that slowed everything down. A copper said that I wasn’t wearing a mask outside but I pointed out he wasn’t either. He said his had ‘blown off’ (strange as there is hardly a breeze) so I gave him a spare that I had :)
Ahh…. You met PC Lugless Douglas I see

No ID checks at all today, ticket was scanned just after the bridge and then took about a minute and half of having my phone with the ticket open in the reader on the turnstile before it lit up green (this was my only poor experience) that would have to be improved. I know others were queuing later near the bridge just to get into the stadium grounds. Suppose it’s all trial and error. Let’s hope if I do get a ticket for the final, the Portuguese are just as lax with their I.d checks :-)

Interesting! I wasn't asked for ID or the health questionnaire confirmation email; just my ticket.
The NFC on my phone was active but the steward's reader couldn't detect it. When I pressed the "shoe code" button the scanner could read the code. It was the same at the turnstile when the NFC didn't work; and didn't work for several other people, but the code was read without hassle.
I can see this leading to fun and games next season if they continue with the plan to make every match e-tickets only.
Same for me, couldn't scan the ticket at the first checking point on Joe Mercer Way so had to use the barcode and then again at the turnstile though even the barcode scan was troublesome as I'd turned away to seek help when the turnstile suddenly beeped. Definite chaos at a full capacity game even if they only use this system for seasoncards.

Does anybody know how many entrances they were using for the first line of checking. My son and I walk from town up towards Mary D’s to use the P1 turnstiles but were sent back to the main (elite fans) entrance where we queued round the side of the Athletics stadium. No health questions or photo id required just about eight blokes with readers to check your electronic ticket. Some fans were having a few problems but we got through only to find that the turnstiles were playing up so another hassle before we gained access.

I know we are in strange times but I hope this is not a sign of things to come. The match and atmosphere were far more than I could have hoped for and Sergio’s cameo was typical of the man. The way our Club has been transformed without losing it’s soul is very satisfying and our owners are due great credit for that.

I am looking forward to next season and to find out if Txiki has unearthed any other gems to add to the squad.
