Returning to the office.

Since September, we have been on 3’days office, 2 days at home. This has now been retracted too 1 day office, 4 at home. In the 3 weeks since the changes, I haven’t been in once and neither have any other colleagues. I see this as the new norm tbh

I think our company is a big old fashioned / worked from home about 6 days since Covid all kicked off and everyone just took the piss.

We are “encouraged” to come in two days a week. I’m going in 2-3. In my office of 150 people maybe 10 people come in 2-3, and maybe 5 come in 4-5 days. Everyone else is at home. There’s no “forcing” going on as mgmt’s guess is that 10%+ of the staff would quit. As we work early stock market hours (5 am start) in our branch, mgmt knows the value of working from home is much greater here than in New York so that we can have more normal family/social lives.

I am currently going in 2 days a week which suits me. I had to do a rota for our team as we always need at least one on site at Hampton court palace and one at Tower of London. Some of the guys don't mind going in so we vary. Some doing 5 days a week, some 4, 3 etc. We were pushed to prepare hotdesking area's for people coming in. 3 days non stop moving PCs, printers etc. That was in Sept and one of the 3 rooms been used twice by 2 people

What would you say is the point of the 1 day in the office? 2 days vs 3 at home, I can see some logic. 1 day vs 4 seems like it isn't worth it, i.e the risk of getting/spreading it seems disproportionate. 1 day every 2 or 3 weeks would seem more logical.

Work have required everyone 4 days a week.

I’m doing 2.

most others are doing 3-4

can they legally suspend or sack staff over this ?

Im on train now, with a mask, will take me over hour to get London - I already have loads of work emails coming in.
I could be at Home sending these right now, on a PC, in a propar format. Instead I have to send via my iPhone with little signal. It’s the main issue I have.

Worked from home from March 2020. September 2021 we have gone back in 2 days a week.

I reckon the office will be back at home before the end of the year again. I'm swapping jobs for 3 months so I definitely will.

I work better at home. My wellbeing is much better and i prefer it, but I get that it's not for everyone.

I'm surprised we're not all at home again already as a health related charity.

I've been in once in the last 18months. My work was fairly flexible before, previously i worked for a very old fashioned firm where I just cant see that old school office with paper everywhere and everyone being in before 9am or eyebrows were raised being fit for the modern reality of work and technology.

Our current work have removed print access for everyone - if you want to print something you have to get approved as a printer user. This would be madness to my old ways of working where nothing was done until it was all printed of and stuck in a folder and stored alphabetically in a big filing rack - locked serimoniously at the end of each day.

It must be over 3 years since i printed anything and the loss of my print access has gone by without note.

Been told to continue working from home until next spring at the earliest, although our offices are open so we can go in if we want, after that they want to do a 'hybrid' working model 2 or 3 days a week in the office. I'm happy with that, especially because the M60 is so shite in the mornings and evenings.
