Returning to the office.

Cutting out on travel costs? Why would they need a pay cut?

Because working from home saves them 3k ayear compared to their work colleagues who had to spend 3k on train/tube fares I guess.
If they were in the office they wouldnt have saved 3k and would have spent 4 hrs travelling.

Perhaps not a pay cut but a pay raise to the ones that still had to travel in !

Just saying what's going on at my mates office ;)

I think theres just abit of bad blood between the ones that were made to work in the office in a pandemic using trains and tubes. Compared to the ones that worked in safety of their own homes and saved on train/tube fares, and brag how much they have saved

so before the pandemic, were they paying the staff who lived closer to the office more than those who had to travel further out ?

My employer is changing how it works where all this is concerned. It's like it has pushed us into a way of working we have longed for, for some time. I think the bosses are a bit embarrassed at how easy the transition has been, whereas before they were saying it would be impossible to work from home. Now they are looking for an alternate office with less space, because many of us want to remain working at home.

I get up, shower, and get cracking with my day. No driving. No trams with the great unwashed aboard. Nobody on my back. It is without doubt the best thing to have come out of all this.

I won't ever return to the office.

not really, shouldn't be financially penalized because someone's doing it from home rather the ones going into a office

Sounds like its a mess at your mates work. HR nightmare

Just out of interest are the ones that stay at home with all the benefits getting a pay cut ;)

I know people who have saved around 3k from not travelling to London each day. This hasnt gone down well the staff that have had to go into the office as they see the stay at home staff have basically been given a 3k pay rise a shorter working day as they are home within one million second and not stuck on trains for nearly 4 hours a day ;)

My mate was telling me its caused real bad blood were he works. Whilst he has been going into the office, risking his health on trains and tubes etc. Yet the stay at home are racking in 3k or more in savings, and not putting themselves at risk.
He works with a bunch of cunts then.

Been working from home for well over a year now and have been dreading going back TBH. I've just found out that they're selling the office building with nobody telling us what's happening after. Hmmm, don't know if I should be happy or not.

Companies have huge overheads in rent/leases so need to justify the spend until they are in a position to review but things will change regards the city centre/working model here in the UK. It's currently based on the victorian industrial revolution model that is no longer totally fit for purpose (As is the design of most city centres tbh...).

Ways of working will change but not quite overnight...

My Boss has given up the office space and has moved into a hot desking place he owns as a side business, Everyone is free to come in as much or as little as they want.

I'll be going back 2/3 times a month at most I reckon.
