Returning to the office.

Flexibility will become a major perk for a job. Younger people might want to work in an office to get out of their parents houses to go to work but once you have kids / do school runs etc then the flexibility to work from home is a massive bonus. Firms that dont offer it will lose staff. Its that simple.

If you are being told to work in an office and you dont want to find a job with an employer who will let you work from home. There will be many.

I'm one of them, looking at Remote/Flexi work roles now

This is the world we live in now. Facts are completely overlooked, instead some illogical explanation is given as to why the facts are wrong.
There's this whole eco system that exists off the back of offices that huge swathes will be out of a job if people aren't told to go back. I'm not saying I agree with forcing everyone to go back to office - I prefer a flexible option - I'm just saying that there will be a lot of businesses that go under if we all stay at home.

Confirmed once restrictions lifted.
All to return to office
And talk of remote working will not even be discussed.

very disheartening

thankfully my employer has recognised that now people will now want to work mostly from home, office capacity reduced by half with lots more meeting / collaboration space

if they'd come back and said what your employer are doing i'd be looking for a new job rapido

Our expected return is September but I'm wondering if the appetite for a hybrid model/or full time working from home approach will sway their decision. I'm not hopeful to be honest, but it's been proven we can do this from home with no impact to productivity so why force us back?

That's true and I know it's not nice to talk about people's livelihoods so abruptly, but it's simple. Either move with the times or go extinct. The number of people working in City Centres will never be the same again even if a few companies force staff to work in an office.

There's loads of opportunity though. Where there aren't people commuting, there will be more need for businesses to pop up in suburban areas. Property should adjust according to demand and the freed up office space would solve the housing crisis if it were converted to apartments.

Word of caution...converting offices into apartments is not as easy as it may look!...other way round is far easier!

True - I'm speaking as someone with no expertise in the field. I do think we'll see some of these conversions in Manchester though. The office rental market will fall through the floor!
