Ricardo Rodriguez

Is there no chance Angelino starting?

I don't think he'd ever go straight into the lineup, but Clichy is solid, good on the ball, and though he won't do much in the final third, he's good enough to start.

Angelino would offer a more attacking alternative for games where we think we'll dominate or they have a dodgy right side to exploit.

And maybe after a year or two learning under pep, getting used to the top level, and filling out a bit, Angelino might be able to take over.

Funnily enough I side with Dax on this one.

Also - he had a €25m release clause which ended in July.

No one tried to sign him, only Arsenal were linked.

I think he's overrated by fans and not rated by professionals, because if he was so amazing, someone would have triggered the clause.

But better than we have by some way?

I agree he's not Maldini, but what options are there? To be honest Angelino would be an upgrade on what we have. He's better going forward than clichy and kolarov

If we're talking attacking, Angelino is absolutely fine imo. Better than both.

Definitely, and in sure there was a reason we spent all that money on the academy...

Angelino is a very intelligent player, and in sure he'd pick up the defensive side quickly under a top class coach

But I'm including Angelino in "what we have".

I think Kolarov is being pushed out of the door, and Clichy-Angelino is a very complimentary pairing.

Couldn't understand it. Like others said, he had a release clause and we didn't used it. That means we weren't interested at that time. Why? Was there any other LB we wanted and we didn't get? Think that Italian guy was a RB?

I would rather we use the 20m towards another striker, or to go balls out for Sanchez, but if it was a choice between clichy, kolarov and Rodriguez, then it's Rodriguez for me, but I agree on Angelino

Perhaps Kolarov's pre season trial run has given Pep sleepless nights, & he hasn't got time to give Angelino a full testing, hence this ?

A fullback that can cross is an upgrade we have needed for a few seasons. The amount of times we fuck up from wide positions is a problem pellers never sorted or even mancini.

Completely agree with this. Think Angelino could be a great LB/LWB under Pep and if we bring anyone else in plus keep Clichy we'll certainly have to loan Angelino.

Agree with this, sorry dax but you are off the mark on this one. He's not Marcelo, fair point, but who is at the minute? Not many! The fact he's a decent fullback who can cross a ball VERY well, is a huge upgrade

I can't remeber the last fullback we had that could cross a ball well, possibly niclas Jensen...
Kurzawa, Peirrera, Sandro, Wendel, Luis, Marcelo, Hector, Yelled, Digne, Fuchs, Alonso, Clichy, Yuri, Alba, Alaba, Guirerrro, Shaw, Evra, Gibbs, Azpiculetta, Siqueira etc.

That's a list of players just as good or better when you take out his free kicks and penalties. None of which he'd get to take here.

Perhaps he'd be allowed to take cornera. ;)

Taye Taiwo had a similar reputation.

Gibbs would be a better signing.
Yish. I remembered warning folks here that Kolarov was the Serbian Take Taiwo. Hyped of for taking long shots and scoring freekick and penalties but on the average a poor footballer.

No one listened. :(

Looked decent enough in the Euros, far greater mobility/athleticism than kolarov and didn't mind the graft either.Definitely a big improvement Imo.

Alba, alaba, Marcelo, hector, shaw I agree, but not the rest
Again take out free kicks and penalties and Ill take Luis, Azpiculetta, Gaya, Perreirra (my choice for LB target), Sandro, Orban, and Siqueiraover him easily. The rest he is on par with. Has his weakness they have theirs.

That's fine but how many are available? Loan out Angelino, sell AK, get another year out of clichy with Rodriguez then reevaluate clichy/angelino.
