Richard Dunne will not be forced out of City

just use him as a makeweight for Lescott, i'm sure the Everton fans would love to see him back ;-) lol

Of course it is fact, he has never played for a top club even though anybody with money could have taken him when we were skint. He is clumsey, scores lots of O/Gs, gets lots of cards, cannot distribute the ball without passing backwards or hoofing it and it prone to more than the odd clanger. How anybody can class him as a top class footballer I have no idea.

Thats your opinion, that for some reason you feel the need to repeat over and over.

thats because it is a fact. He is garbage, always has been always will be. Its just in the past at times the rest of the team has been worse. Luckily we now have outgrown Dunne which we will see next season with the fact he will either be gone or playing at the regional athletics stadium.

Its not a fact, its your opinion and a misguided one at that imo

For many years dunnie has shown us loyalty and has been without doubt one of our best players, this bourne out by him winning our player of the year award.

Is he good enough for where we want to go, maybe not but that doesnt mean he should be just thrown out of the club.

On his day he is still a formidable defender and will be a good squad player this year for us.

he only looked good cos the rest of the team were crap. He got found out last season.

Dunne has grown whilst he's been with us. The fans (apart from maybe last season) have been loyal to him over the years and he has tried to repay the support he has had by being loyal to the club. He may not be able to compete for a first team spot this season. He may not be the club captain, however he should be given the opportunity to fight for his place this term like many of the other first teamers from last season. If he isn't good enough and wants to leave why not address this in January when a players value is at it's peak?

Without Dunne's steadfast defending during the Pearce era we would have almost certainly have gone down.
He saved us with goal line clearances and last-ditch tackles on far more than one occasion-but they always get forgotten about during discussions like this.

Whether he is now looked upon as "surplus to requirements" is open to debate-as are the positions of all the players not bought in by MH.

But to simply call him "crap" is both churlish and ungracious.

Some people have extremely short memories.

Richard Dunne has been a magnificent servant to MCFC.He deserves better.

maybe he will just sit on the bench. love dunney to bits but i dont think he is up to the standard we need to finish top 4.

he deserves better ??????

How is that, he is one of the highest paid if not highest defender outside of the top 4 and his abilities certainly don't make him the best defender outside of the top 4. He was also given many chances by City when he was contiunally late for training through booze. Yes he has been a better player than what we have had in the past but that doesn't mean we have to keep paying him 50k a week for the hell of it. He will walk away from us a multi millionaire that is his loyalty payment.

Get rid.

Agreed. But the rags also have players like Brown,Evans,Neville and O'shea who IMO wouldn't get anywhere near another top four team as first team players.
They are squad members-simple as.That's what we've been lacking for years.Strength in depth.Every side that hopes to win anything needs competition and squad depth.
Whether or not club captain and longest-serving player Dunne is willing to play from the bench behind the likes of Toure and should he come,Lescott is of course another matter.

spot on mate

I think a lot of people forget how crucial the Dunne - Distin partnership was to us during the Keegan years. Agreed, Dunney is not the best defender in the premiership but I really don't think that he is as bad as people are making him out, a bad players doesn't win our player of the season award three times in a row.

I don't think that Dunne will be first choice next sesason but I certainly think that it would be a shame of he left the club, he is more than capable of providing good back up cover and keeping out first choice centre backs on their toes. Aswell as this I think that his experience and character could be in valuble when it comes to mentoring our young defenders such as Mee, Mcgivern etc.

Forgive me for saying this but you do seem to like to "accentuate the negatives."

What happened with Dunne and his "attitude" is ancient history.Sure-Keegan didn't sack him-although to be fair that was probably more for financial reason than anything-but he backed him and he came good.
It's called "giving someone a chance."
In other words-good management.
And when I said "he deserves better" I meant that you should acknowledge the past loyalty and and what Dunne has given to the club.He stayed at a time when others were jumping ship to Portsmouth-and he decided to stay and played a huge part in keeping us up.

And he's in no way as bad a player as you keep making out.

We need him-at least as a squad player.

The reason why Dunne got POY so many times was that he was competing against the likes of Paul Bosvelt, Michael Tarnat et al.

If we sign Lescott then Dunne is 4th choice at best, Onuoha is already better than Dunne so whats the point in keeping somebody on at 50k a week if we won't be using them. There is no room for sentiment if you want to win the league.

I didn't say that Dunne should be kept purely based on sentiment, I just think it would be a wise decision to keep him to ensure that we have enough decent quality back up defenders to cops with injuries that we will inevitably face at some stage of the season, also I believe his experience at the club can help develop the young defenders.

We will need a squad!

Defenders capable of playing CB

Lescott
Toure
Onuoha
Richards
Kompany
Mee
McGivern.

I think we can afford to lose Dunne

Lescott plays for Everton and i dont think Mee or McGivern are ready just yet, do you?

Like i said a squad is needed, its a long season with 2 domestic cup competitions and injuries and suspensions to think about.

Dunnie will not be first choice but will provide experienced cover imo

It was said at the start of the debate it hinged on getting Lescott or another player, which we are obviously out for. Mee and McGiven might not be quite ready yet but 5 players to fill 2 positions is what you call a squad, what is your justification in 6 players.

For the record I would play Toure, Lescott, Kompany, Onuoha all ahead of Dunne in CB and Richards still has time to improve, which is why I'd prefer him too.

Fair enough, but I think Hughes seems to agree with me as we will see either in the sale of him or the fact he won't get much playing time.
