Richard Dunne

My Opinion in all this, is that Dunne should stay. he's been such a loyal player for the club, that the club should honour that. he'll definatly be needed. we havent signed any center backs yet to replace him, and tbh, he's easily one of the best captains we've ever had.

I agree with most of these comments accept the captain bit. IMO, for what it is worth, I think he struggles as captain. He is not the most vocal of people and I think he is a better player when concentrating solely on his own game and being organised by a captain. For example I thought he was a better, more consistent player when playing with Distin.

Is it only me that thinks Dunnie is still a top quality premiership experienced defender? I understand that he makes a few mistakes (maybe and understatement to some) but surely just because we now have a bit of money to attract some of the "bigger" names to our beloved club, we shouldn't be showing the door to the players that have got us where we are now? I believe he should be given the chance to fight it out with the best that shall grace the holy coms turf and put on the beloved blue shirt. What do you all think? Because i personally feel we are showing him no respect (this is my first new topic post, and could well be my last) :-)

I think he's an important part of the squad.

I have to agree, Dunney finished the season really well and of course can still do a job, Dunney would be a good bench warner for us this season, and deserves some loyalty from us!

Still think hes prem quality but his time at city is near done before he starts to get slagged off more,think it would be good for him to move .

Brilliant, I love Dunnie, he had a bad season but he'll be back.

We've signed the amazing duo of Barry and Tevez (RSC is good, Taylor 2nd keeper)
If we get some more galacticos I'll get excited but If Barry and Tevez get a few knocks we'll have the same team as last year?????
Am I being a bit overly cautious?

I hope the Dunney Monster stays but If we get Terry and/or lesscot i think Dunnes chances will be few and probably limited to lesser games and carling cup, assuming we can stay in it?

In all honesty I can't see him playing a major role at the club in the future, this however doesn't mean he should leave. It's depends on whether we sign the CB's we've been after and if he's willing to be a squad player.

If he wants to stay we keep him, but I suspect that there would be many Prem managers who would love to shore up their back four with Dunney in it.

I think we have to remember that beyond the back four last season we had 6 players that all wanted to get forward with little regard for what was going on behind them, and therefore leaving absolutely no cover for the four of them. It's part of the reason why Richards nosedived as well.

IMO Dunney started to get his form back once we signed De Jong to offer that cover and a decent Goalie behind him as well (I do rate Hart but he is nowhere near the finished article yet).

Also, I believe the aforementioned player awards say it all and show that he has the ability.

And even if he had lost it (which i don't believe he has), with the money we have we can afford to be sentimental and loyal to him

Totally agree - his form picked up in the new year. He remained loyal to us when he could have bailed out - we should show him the same loyalty. Would love to see him win something with us (actually, would just love us to win something!) and see him get his testimonial.
