Ricky Hatton RIP

Devastating news. My condolences to all Hatton's nearest and dearest family and friends. Bumped into Ricky a few times over the years and never got a photo or autograph as he just seemed like one of the lads we all bump into at football. Even though he looked like a boxer, he talked gentle and seemed kind.

Knew about The Hitman's depression over the years and read his autobiography. Such a down to earth mind and a loss to the community of sport and City. Peace and love.

The news broke as I was travelling to the game on the tram from Altrincham. To say it was a shock was an understatement. I knew Ricky had his demons in the past but I thought he'd turned a corner.
I was there when he won the world title. Scousers, Mancunians, fans from all over the country and world were there, all united for Ricky. He was one of us you see. A working class kid from the same mean streets we grew up in. That cheeky Mancunian unassuming sense of humour, happy to laugh with others and at himself. One of the lads. One of us. Also at a time we weren't very successful on the football field Ricky was proud to wear his City shorts in the ring and walk into the strains of Bluemoon. He gave us a presence and kept our name relevant. His cheery face will be missed around the Etihad and in Tenerife where I saw him many times. I never saw him grumpy, or refuse a request for a selfie with his many fans. Fuck it just won't be the same over there now. Rest in peace Ricky I'm sorry you chose this path, you were truly loved by many.

Absolutely devastated. Lucky enough to see him fight once, met him twice, once when I was working in a club in Preston when his gym had fights against another gym, took a city shirt for him to sign. He was worse for wear but no problem signing and chatting.

Took my son to game today and news broke on radio on the way, not even sure he'd heard of him before but after all the tributes, even my lad was shocked and a bit sad.

Irrelevant in the bigger picture but glad for Ricky we won today.

RIP and thoughts with all family and friends. A true legend.

If it was indeed suicide, he must have been in an incredibly dark place to do it the day before the derby. Undoubtedly, he was as big of a blue as anybody, you'd like to think if nothing else, the anticipation for the game would have got him through this weekend. Really sad to think how bad it must have been for him to not even want to see 1 more day and get to see the derby.

Just heard Steve Bunce saying Ricky didn't turn up to the gym on Friday or at a fight he was supposed to be at on Saturday night, that's when the police were alerted.

Lived 5 minutes from my house. He was still a superstar in Hyde and a massive inspiration to kids.
You'd see him at some point every week, whether out on a run or just in the community.

But for local kids he gave them hope.
Cos if Ricky could be the best in his field, coming from this area, then they too could achieve their dreams.

Cried yesterday, Sad this morning too.
RIP Hitman.

Very sad news. Watched the documentary the other year; came across as a really good lad, as did his former partner and Billy Graham

I’m in Tenerife at the moment and watched yesterday’s game in the beach cabin. Some very nice words and tribute from his friend in there and I have no shame in admitting it brought a tear or two to my eyes.

I only watched that documentary on sky a little while back and I was happy for him that he seemed to have overcome his battle with mental health issues.
I’ve been through the wringer the last few years and listening to him speak gave me hope that I could come through the other side.

I hope he’s at peace now and I also know a lot of people on this board are fighting a daily battle and struggle and I wish everyone that does struggle nothing but peace love and love.,

Ctid.

Yes it hit me quite hard. Like Ricky I'm out in Tenerife a lot, I do at least 12 weeks a year there and used to bump into him quite a lot. It just won't be the same now, he's left a huge hole that can't be filled.
