Wow that's a lot of weight to place on one player. So our ability to return to our heights is heavily dependent on our RB? You're telling me that if Haaland bangs in 40+ goals (all comps), Rodri returns to full health, Foden regains his form, Reijnders, Cherki, and Ait Nouri all hit the ground running, Marmoush provides goals, the CBs stay healthy, and Doku, Bobb, and Savinho progress we won't get things done because of Nunes? Okey doke...So that's a Pep issue then... he went with akanji that day which indeed is telling but my point still stands. He's nothing more than a stop gap until we sign an actual specialist right back, in my opinion we wont get near previous levels with him in the side.
I'm not sure it's a matter of relevance. It's just my own opinion...It’s a fair enough view but until we are in a position to do it,and that seems unlikely until late in the window if at all this window, a bit irrelevant.

Especially as Marmoush will move inside and Ait-Nouri is a proper full back, feel we need Lewis tactical knowledge there as opposed to Nunes gunning forward.
Khusanov in the middle will definitely help with his pace too, I’m not saying he should play right back but he has the pace to recover the ball or position if a mistake is made. And he can tackle.

There is a very obvious weakness in the squad that, for whatever reason, some of you are in denial about.

Heard he was MOTM against Pool in the community shield.Munoz at palace great defensively and puts a decent ball in the box.
I wish the club believed in short term solutions

The biggest issue with each option in my opinion:Nunes, Lewis, Stones, Akanji, Khusanov these are our RBs
Can’t win the CL with him due to lack of concentration.
Too slow off the ball and lacks physicality to fend off players. Too little output.
Body isn’t made for football anymore sadly, as he missed over 30 PL matches last season.
Past his best, lost a yard of pace and his reactions are slower. FA cup final is the evidence.
Doesn’t have an attacking bone in his body. Zero low centre of gravity to defend against tricky wingers, can’t turn hips or cross a ball.
The issue isn’t Nunes vs Livramento it’s the back ups. That’s MY problem. None of those players are RBs. Everyone and their dog knows this. Nunes as the ONLY back up to an actual RB is perfect. Not whatever this is.
Please tell me where I said it hinges all on one position? Yes it’s happened for us with delph and zinchenko previously but the landscape has changed, it’s the fine margins that are going be the difference I believe with the overall level between the top teams now being much narrower.
If you’re content with a failed midfielder playing right back for us so be it but he’s clearly going to be a weak link should all the other points you made go our way.
It's not a matter of me being content. I've been consistent all along that we should sign a RB AND keep Nunes. If you want to reread my post - you will see I did not say that at all. But the fact you listed Pedro Porro as someone who is a better RB than Nunes says it all lol. Guy is hot trash. And Aina is a 28 year old who was always a Left back. Clearly not above Nunes. James cant stay fit. You want to pay him high wages and probably a big transfer fee for 10 matches a season? He is better when fit, sure. Most people know this. Gusto is okay. Better than how Nunes closed the season? I disagree. Timber and White are good. Not out and out wingbacks. We've got those profiles in Gvardiol and Khusa. We need touchline wingback if we replace Nunes because we don't have touchline wingers on the right. Savio is the only one and he looks to be gone. Bobb tends to drift inside a little more like Foden and Cherki. But is closest.By that logic Nunes is the 4th best right back in the world... yes he finished last season well but are you having a laugh or what?
In the prem alone theres Aina, James, Gusto, Porro, Livramento, Timber and White who are all better in that position than him and I've probably missed a few more out. Attainable or not I think all of those listed would also excel at city.
Nunes has only a few months career experience playing right back, hes never going to be the solution and he'll end up costing us playing there. I hope he proves me wrong but it's telling Pep didn't play him in the cup final after a spell of his best run of form in a city shirt.
Regarding the second bolded part, you might be right. He may not be the solution long-term. But to say never is silly. I already listed the few wing backs who are CLEARLY a step-up. The rest all have issues. They all have drawbacks. And I'd argue Nunes has the most potential of them all. One of the leagues fastest players last season. Clearly grew into the role quickly. Excellent ball-carrier. Can crash the box for a G/A every now and then. Final ball looked decent to end the season. I'll stand on this take. The right back market sucks.

Yes Nunes did well in the run in for a dozen games or so last season but for that to propel him into your thinking as some top level right back is laughable. It also wasn't my point to suggest that city should try to sign any of those other right backs I listed... I was making the point that several teams now have a better right back than we do which means this is undoubtedly now a weak spot for us that needs addressing.

He’s 29 so wouldn’t be that expensive.

The moment we play anyone half decent our weakness at RB will be exposed. I'm concerned we're genuinely not going to get one. I'm hoping its a case of there simply isnt anyone available rather than Pep genuinely thinks we can win something with Nunes as our main RB.Yeah i just dont think it's as big an issue as so many on here see it as.
Nunes is the starter, then if he needs rest, we have plenty of good fill options.
No, they can't play it the same as Nunes, but they all offer their own advantages and disadvantages in their own way.
Im particularly fond of Khus or Stones as the backup, and Lewis against inferior opposition where his defending isn't as required.
Problem is, its unlikely to change next summer? A RB is magically going to appear out of thin air? We've done so well in the market, especially is Donnarumma signs, it would be a costly mistake not to resolve our final weak area.
Either way, can't wait for the season to start!
