Right back options

It’s a toss up between right back and striker that has the worst strength in depth in world football.

There are two elite strikers in the world (imagine saying that 15-20 years ago when there were about two-dozen!) in Haaland and Mbappe. And there are probably 3 elite RBs in Hakimi, Kounde and Timber.

Everyone else is both positions are instantly forgettable.

Might as well stick with Khusanov and develop him there.
you could say that Isak is elite (he will adjust to Liverpool and will start ripping), Kane is still elite, Alvarez and Dembele also are elite

Feel like we will play the long game with Livramento. If they don’t qualify for CL try again, he’s not signed that new contract yet…

If you look at it there‘s 3-5 elite strikers. Why do people forget about Kane when he is outscoring everyone? Isak is elite too and even Lewandowski is still elite when you look at his numbers. Dembele and Alvarez are elite too. The golden ball winner is literally Dembele.

Kounde and timber ain’t special either in my eyes. It’s just that the RB position has no depth and the clubs they play for that people think they are that good. Munoz from CP isn’t worse than them.
Hakimi is absolutely clear and then comes nothing

Hakimi is a great player for sure.

I worry about these sort of players that have played for various high level teams. Does he move because he’s not happy, or because certain teams deem him not good enough. That’s clearly not the case now. He’s played for - Real, Dortmund, Inter, PSG.

There’s also the personal stuff and let’s be honest we aren’t going there after last time.

Real didn’t give him a chance he was too young and Carvajal was the starter. He started for all the other clubs so it wasn’t personal or his quality. Inter needed to sell and Dortmund was always going to be a stopover

Fair enough. Great player.

i don't understand why we are not linked to Wilfried Singo, for me he should be nr1 target for RB

One thing could be the African Nations Cup. We have Ait-Nouri already as a fullback (different side, I know) and while we might be okay with one missing, losing two fullbacks might be seen as too risky. Just a possibility - I expect if they were to think he's something special then we'd go for him regardless, but if not then maybe we' look elsewhere.

we are in a precarious situation with players who can play multiple positions, we might be safe if we play O'reilly/Gvardiol in LB and Khusanov/Lewis in RB

I agree with those to be fair. My excuse is it was early doors when I posted that and forgot about them.

So you could argue around half a dozen, top class, strikers. At one point City had three top class striker and Balotelli as a fourth.

Around 12 years ago these were all playing: Agüero Džeko Tevez Suarez Falcao Lewandowski Messi CRonaldo Benzema Ibrahimovic vanPersie Rooney Villa Griezmann Drogba Higuain Morata Costa Giroud Lukaku Cavani Torres Eto’o Berbatov Milito Gomez…

But there are even fewer top class RBs now

Same with Lewis. Difference is that Nunes is a physical and offensive threat
Id say that Lewis looks more comfortable in our midfield whereas Nunes looks lost.

Seeing O'reilly play left back highlights even more how Lewis physically struggles, id like to see him get moreminjtes in the middle and we buy a proper fullback that will play most of our games at RB.

At 19 years old, we need to take a look at how he will continue his progress this season with Feyenoord.

yesterday we were linked with him

apart from relatively small size - 175cm he would be good addition

i still believe Wilfried Singo would be best option for us

The full back position is probably the least important position on the pitch, as shown by our success under Pep. We've had Walker as a proper full back and then a combination of centre backs or midfielders in the position otherwise. Walker had a lot of pace but didn't offer anything going forwards or much at all on the ball. The midfield options we've used have been much more comfortable on the ball, inverting and adding to our midfield. It feels as though Pep's trying to get us to a similar position where Khus/Nunes with their pace are covering defenders and O'Reilly on the left has a bit more freedom to roam because he's more comfortable on the ball.

The issue with Nunes is he's not got that natural defensive instinct and there's always a concern he's going to make the wrong call and be caught out. So far he's doing okay, but I measure things on whether we'd want him starting against the best in the world in a CL final which is where City should be aiming. The answer is no. He's capable of being a covering full back, but hopefully Khus can develop and become consistent in the position because he's quick and has a more natural defensive instinct.

Khusanov will never make it as a RB. Yes he is quick but lacks confidence with the ball - and has zero knowledge about how to play the position. Don’t even know why we buy young players to play them differently. Just buy the perfect profile instead of shoving another young talent on another position to keep people like Dias in the first XI.

Our right side is dead with Khusanov there and makes it even harder for our right wing to create something but people here ain’t ready for it and expect our wingers to go double figures while being isolated against 2-3 defenders.
