Rio Olympics

I wonder if the BBC have got some sort of spread betting going on how many times they can shift the Olympics from one channel to another in a single evening?

I like how they tell us that the news will be on after this like they talking to 5 year olds! You really think anyone will be sat there waiting for the news?! Especially when the bbc have dedicated Freeview news channel.

daft scheduling.

The get inspired scheme is probably another reason, plus there are other channels and the website with more sport on. I for one don't mind it if minority sports that we're actually good at get more air time. Saying that I would give all sports even more funding if I was in charge.

Brilliant article on the Olympics, about 90% of this is nail-on-the-head stuff for me from Jenkins. "The nationalisation of sport". I'd love to see an Olympics where they compete as individuals, cos, like, that's what they are (unless its a team event, obviously...), rather than as 'symbols' of their country @dawlishdave

What a complete and utter pile of unadulterated horse shit. If you think that's a brilliant article than you're a bit of a cockwomble.

"Then on Tuesday night the BBC went bananas. At 10 o’clock we were denied important news – of Anjem Choudary’s conviction, of swingeing tax fines and of possible “special status” for Britain outside the EU."

What a load of self-important drivel. Why does he consider sport to be any less important than other news? It's just as much part of the fabric of life. The BBC also operates a 24 hour news channel where he can watch 'important' news all day long.

I was less referring to him talking about the news being delayed, than his point about the nationalisation of sport. I recall years ago Daley Thompson getting slated in the media for daring to whistle during the national anthem - as if he was winning the gold for 'Queen and country' - he was winning it for himself, as all athletes do. They arent symbols of a country; the Olympics shouldnt be about one country trying to prove it is better than another country, it should be about one individual being better than the rest in competition. I love the Olympic sport as much as anyone, but it doesnt mean the coverage can't be criticised, and the BBC obsession with the medals table is OTT.
Anyway, the author of that article and his like wont need to worry soon, cos ESPN has snaffled the coverage rights in future, so the BBC coverage will be secondary and much reduced. And, bless 'em, those annoyed about having to pick up their remotes to switch between BBC channels to follow the coverage probably wont need to bother.
