It's weird isn't it I have watched all sorts of sports I wouldn't normally watch for example the half kneeling up canoeing that is on now. I am sure it's not called that. Hah

Thats the beauty of the Olympics, I have just said that Judo is glorified cuddling, however, when Gemma Gibbons got a silver in London, I welled up when she mouthed 'love you mum' to her mum who had passed away.

Yes Kaz that's it exactly. I think it's great we are doing so well across so many different sports. Our lad in the taikwondo (sp) did well too! Now we seem to be ok in the show jumping as well. Hockey tonight it's not the game we played at my school hah.

I watched her win gold last night and the Japanese girl she fought hadn't lost a single bout in about 4 years. She was utterly broken when she lost.

Seems the Paralympics are in trouble, tbh Rio has been a failure in terms of the crowds etc, no surprise given how poor a lot of the people are.
They found their wallets when they were in for a chance at a gold medal. There was an interview on BBC a few days ago and the guy summed it up nicely by saying the Brazilians aren't interested in sport, they're interested in winning. That's why the country is so football mad cos for years Brazil was the best team around.

The Chinese had similar, got criticised early on, so brought in bus loads of people and told them to clap, Beijing was a spectacular games, as was London, Sydney, Seoul, Barcelona, despite the obvious political issues Moscow and LA were good, although Athens and Atlanta werent great. I have to agree, this is the worst I can remember, only masked by how good Team GB have been.

Tickets to Olympic events were given out free to some of the locals. They didn't turn up. Nor have they turned out for some of the other free events like the road cycling.

I reckon Tokyo 2020 will be a spectacular games.
Budapest, Paris, Rome and LA are bidding to host 2024.
Paris, Rome and LA have hosted it before. Budapest has bid five times but never hosted the games.

Agreed I think Tokyo will be excellent, the Japanese wont want the dishonour of not measuring up, especially to Beijing, the crowd reaction might not be typical, but they will be there in numbers and I have no doubt the facilities will be second to none.

yeah the Japanese will be good, though if people thought Rio corruption was bad then the 2002 World Cup proved to be even worse (yes I know it was largely the Koreans that benefited).
London was a perfect Olympic city though, it fits all the corporate values whereas places like Rio are so far behind.
