A big blue who loved the banter. Met him in the east stand before his illness, a sound man.
Ric, Jeanie authored me to start the thread.Heard the sad news from his wife Jeanie earlier today, but wasn't sure whether or not to post it on here until I had her blessing.
Bill was a lovely man, once of the nicest guys you could wish to meet, and a huge part of the forum since it started over 20 years ago. He and his daughter Jess were at the first ever Bluemoon get together back in the day at The Square Albert in town. Over the years he became a great friend, and in many respects something of a father figure, and I will miss him dearly.
I went to see him a few months ago and it was clear how severely his condition had deteriorated, as MND is a cruel disease, but he remained in high spirits and still had his mischevious sense of humour. Glad he got to see us win the treble.
Thoughts are with Jeanie, Jess and the rest of his family at this sad time.
Oh no, how sad. I hooked up with Bill on one of the earlier European trips after he sorted me out with a ticket. Maybe Copenhagen or Seville? He was a proper character. Best wishes to his family. RIP BlueI’m so saddened to report the passing of Bill Lyons who finally lost his battle with Motor Neurone Disease yesterday.
Bill was a true legend as I’m sure many on here will testify.
It was my honour to do many trips with him, I particularly European away where we would room together.
So many brilliant memories of happy times.
Sleep well and rest in peace Bill.
Thoughts with Jeanie, Martin, Jess, Jenna and the whole family.
I am aware that, at Bill’s request, they do want to keep things private.
