RIP Denis Law

Very sad week. Out of interest did Sky dedicate the same huge number of hours of reporting when Skip passed away? He was equally, if not more, important for us & was involved in great achievements both here & in Europe?
I might have missed the coverage so only asking.

Bell, Lee, Summerbee, Law, Best, Book.
The great Manchester legends

It's weird seeing all of the tributes to him who describe him as a wonderful man. I met him once as a young kid and he was rude and dismissive.
People have bad days or bad moments and that one incident shapes false perceptions for years to come. I know a few people at United over the years and they always described him as a great guy, sharp and funny and caring.

You probably called him a red **** ;)

Alex Stepney just on BBC Breakfast now
"My first game was against Man City , and we won one nil with a Denis overhead kick,
And his last game was against us playing for City , and scored a backheel "THAT PUT US DOWN"
I can see he will be dragged in to Old Trafford for some media training !
Whenever I’ve taunted rags with the, "Denis Law relegated you," line, they are always quick to deny that was the case, as if it was better to be relegated by any other team.

I can remember when Dennis signed for City for the second time, we played the rags at Maine Road, when the teams come out the United fans singing " Dennis Dennis come back home " May God rest your soul.

In City’s last game of the 1973-74 season, against a relegation-haunted United at Old Trafford, Law famously scored with a back-heel which gave City a 1-0 lead with nine minutes left to play.

United got relegated. The story has been retold many times, in almost poetic terms, about how Law sealed the fate of the club he loved the most, but he didn’t.

Results elsewhere meant they were going down regardless of what Law did, but it bothered him none the less. “I seldom felt so depressed as I did that weekend,” he said later.

Law went to the World Cup in 1974 and began the season with City, but retired almost immediately on 10 August. His body had had enough.
See, I don't get this. Didn't United have to beat City to have any chance of staying up AND if results elsewhere went their way, they could do so ? Denis' goal meant it didn't matter what happened elsewhere. They were down anyway. That's the way I prefer to look at it anyway.
