RIP John Prescott

I find it amusing that people say there are not enough working-class people in Parliament, and the working class are not represented. Yet the minute you get a working-class person in anything like a position of power, they are absolutely torn to pieces. They are usually called 'thick' and 'uncouth' and similar words.

It's fascinating really. The difference between what people say they want and what they really want. I think many people only take you seriously if you talk with a plummy accent and have been to the 'right' kind of school. You may be thick as a brick, and utterly incompetent, but you'll get by. Certainly as an MP, and often as a minister.

You always knew what he believed in and he wasnt afraid of saying it, even if you didn't agree that's a diminishing quality in a politician these days.

A good innings which is all you can ask for really.

Sorry for putting this in the Angela Raynor thread.

Bit of class please gents.
