Rip-off Britain

A few years back the water companies were saying you could reduce your bills by half, from £400 to £200 by installing a water meter. Now they're saying, you could save £100 on your £1000+ bill by doing the same.
Oh well, clowns wanted privatisation.

No my house is 60s but its in a high council tax band. For me it was £2k a year unmetered or £612 on a water meter. I can think of better things to do with nearly £1400.

I would have to use an enormous amount of water to get anywhere close to £2k. Lets put it this way how much water I use doesn't really register, electricity yes because its ludicrously expensive (hence why I fitted solar and a battery system).

The general issue is that the water companies, whilst paying their shareholder big dividends and bosses huge bonuses are raising their bills by 26% so my £2k unmetered would be £2.5k if I wasn't on a meter, instead it will be around £765 per year.

I think you need to re read the thread mate.
It’s non metered posters who are complaining.
And no, you cannot have a water meter removed in a new build. If you have one installed yourself you have a year.
We halved our costs when we had a meter installed and actually paid for what we used rather than bills being based on the rateable value of the house.

We got our new water bill last Friday it’s now £78 per month we bought an ex- council house a good few years ago , as did our neighbours, they pay on average £45 per month as I say we’re now paying £78 .
Yesterday I phoned UU to ask why for years we’ve been paying nearly half as much as everyone on my row. I wasn’t happy with the answer so I arranged for a bill manager to ring me today which to be fair he did .
He went on about the rateable value of the building in 1990 !! So I asked it’s the same build as all my neighbours?? His reply… honestly was “ it must of looked a lot nicer than the others who share your your postcode “ so the assessment people thought the ex owners were more affluent. This happened on the phone this afternoon. I’m not leaving this here I’ll keep fighting it. I told the UU bill manager we all have the same houses ?? His only answer was “ we want everyone on a metre “. Unbelievable it’s like being means tested for water.
Still can not get my head round this.

Yes mate if you mean council tax we pay the same , there’s literally no difference in any of the houses . Those who I know well enough to ask what they pay for water they all pay the same except us. It baffles me totally this .
 
Are they on water meters?
If they are that could explain the difference.
