RIP Tony Book

Since my dad first took me to Maine Rd in the 60s….Tony Book has always seemed to have been there….even when he had the odd year away….scouting for other teams etc his heart was always with City.

George Best always said Tony Book was his most difficult opponent….the season after we won the league in 68 when he missed a big part of the season with his Achilles injury, the lift he gave to the team on his return was immense.

Things will never be quite the same.

RIP Skip, never saw him as a player but from the mid 70’s he was always there and always ready when the club needed him, was half expecting him to come in as caretaker when Pep decided to call it a day. Was a pleasure to meet him on the few occasions I did. A true blue legend. Been really off since I heard the news, more upset about Tony passing than I even was about King Colin. That team upstairs has finally got its Captain, be unstoppable now.

Truly sad. One of my boyhood hero’s and he came over as a very decent man. RIP Skip. Condolences to his friends and family. He is and always will be an iconic part of our clubs history.

Who does that leave of that wonderful team? Big Joe. Alan Oakes and Tommy Booth, Buzzer?
Tony Coleman, Dave Connor, Ian Bowyer?

R.I.P. Skip.

Such a shame, but what a life. I met him once and he was such a nice man.

Absolutely devastated. Always knew his death would hit hardest of all the city players, i love the man. Met him lots of times outside Maine Road and the Etihad and he always had time and was lovely. I grew up with him as someone to be in awe of, in the mid 80s as a kid seeing him on the youth cup winning famous photo and realising that's Tony Book, the name in all my city books - he's still here working for us.. i loved seeing him with the first team squad under Peter Reid and Brian Horton, loved that he was still right up there for us after all this time. Just loved him. To captain all those trophies, to being a manager winning the trophy we all held on to as the bright light to cling to for decades, to the youth team, the 1st team again, and still being at the etihad - Tony was the best.

I'm disappointed in the lack of a big news item on the local news, they do it for others, and did it for franny. Granada had a little article but the BBC just did a mention.

Have people been to the ground and left tributes in person? Anyone seen? I'd like to go by weekend and leave a tribute, for "Skip" xx
