Rival Fans

Can't get over the difference in the attitude of rags fans to us in 1999. They seem shell shocked and don't know what to do or say. In 1999 we went off to the play off final singing songs questioning Giggs legitimacy, the moralls of Beckhams wife and the paternity of his children, and accusing Cantona of being a transvestite. Anyone who was in town the night of the Wigan play off would not have believed there was another team in town as we turned Manchester blue. The only evidence of the champion's league final was City fans waving Bayern Munich flags. We had only needed the slightest upturn in our fortunes to have us back loud and proud. The rags by any standard but theirs have had a great season, but at Wembley instead of staying to support their players allowed them to collect their medals with no applause, and jeers ringing round the stadium, and they say we've no class.

Absolutely shite club. Bankrolled off Sky money and Ferguson tbf to him got 110% out of players because he was given total control at the football club and was a bully.

Back into the background where they belong. Hope to fuck this lasts another 10 years or more.

I Don,t know about most of the time, I tend to find the match going rags who appear respectful when prodded soon show their true colours and start spouting all the shit peddled by the media. Perhaps it's the Treble Treble effect :-)

Well, to be fair, mate, I did say “most of the time, not all”, and I said it “sometimes includes United and Liverpool fans.” I was careful in my wording.
A good lad I've now lost touch with, genuine Manc (that's always an improvement, I find, on someone who comes from Ulan Bator and purports to be a United fan) who was a life long rag, always had good exchanges with him. I recognised what United had done in the past, he recognised what we were doing in the present (was also well aware of ‘distant’ history of the late sixties and the seventies, when we were more or less on an equal footing. I once said to him, “You know, John, I have cognitive dissonance with you. My default position is that all rags are cunts, by definition. But you're not. It gives me a problem!” He took the banter in good part. The night we beat Liverpool at the Etihad in that utterly monumental game (last minute Sané goal, Johnny clearing off the line when two more centimetres would have made it a goal and Liverpool would have taken a point), we both watched the match together, and he was made up for me. Serious guitarist, too. So we always had music to talk about when football was too touchy.
I'd also notice, by the way, that if you ‘prod’ people, well, they tend to react aggressively. That includes City fans.

We've taken hard knocks. Really hard knocks. They wouldn't recognise a hard knock if it came up and shook hands with them. It's a dimension that's lacking in their moral education.

Why are City fans expecting congratulations from rival fans? Would we congratulate our rivals? No.

Im having a great time with fellow Blues and don’t expect anything else.

Should we ask for a cake?

All a bit bizarre!
I always have.

My oldest mate is a big Rag and when we used to go out drinking a lot (he’s married with kids now, plus United don’t win much anymore) and United had won something, I always bought him a pint and congratulated him.

Fair enough, but I take his point, you know. We can't expect it, as of right, especially from strangers.
And giving congratulations to a mate just seems in order, to me. If they are a mate. And then I would expect it back from time to time. If it wasn't forthcoming, it would almost be the proof to me that he wasn't ever really a mate.

I wasnt expecting it and going by the press/media I was expecting shit to be thrown.
So I was surprised when complete strangers fans of other clubs started concentrating me !.

I was curious if it was happening to other City fans.

I though we were well and truly hated but it seems we arent, the press/media have been lying lol.

Obviously no plastic dippers or rags have said anything.

Online the dippers just will not shut up, even though we don’t matter?? (Odd)

Rags have been pretty quiet.

Fans of the other clubs seem happy for us. Bizarrely there was a clip of some Juve fans celebrating our CL win, all wearing City shirts.

We are headline news all over.

In the Shropshire pub I was in all the locals wanted us to win. Seeing people with Wolves tops on screaming for City or clapping for the silky footwork of Silva was class if a bit odd. Place went nuts when Godri scored.
