Riyad Mahrez - 2018/2019 performances

There's no doubting he has the ability to pull of individual moments of magic. But that's partly why I don't think he is frustrating to watch. It's always individual with him. Pep's system is about building relationships between the forward players so they all know each other's movements and skillsets. That's why we can chop and change our forwards and still see the systematic principles in play.

Except for Mahrez. He doesn't have a relationship with the full back on his side. He takes too many touches halting the momentum of a lot of our moves. And he is just overly lethargic off the ball. I think this season has shown what an incredible player Bernardo is because along with his amazing technical play, he is a terrier who gets us going. Mahrez has mercurial talent with the ball out of his feet - he can pluck the ball out of the sky and bend one into the top corner on his day. But football is more than that and especially in a Pep Guardiola team.

His defensive work rate was very impressive, that's certainly a step in the right direction.

I’d like to see him more central. He hasn’t got the pace for our style of play.

I suspect he'll end up there soon enough for us. There's a certain creativity about him that's calling to be unlocked.

The Son goal is kinda frame-for-frame exactly what I wanted from Mahrez that entire night.

Wish he would get in the box and do more.

I don't think he was that bad tonight. You should factor in the work being done off-the-ball while assessing a player.

I'm not sure Sane would have done better in such away game, considering his poor defensive discipline.
Well, I saw the same game as you. I think people are just raw about the result and Mahrez is their target
