Riyad Mahrez reportedly in line for new contract

I guess Sterling may have made his xG worse by taking a few too.

Sterling wants about twice the money Mahrez does, with less output. There’s a reason the queue of clubs lining him up is 1 deep.

Jesus works hard and you can rely on him in big games defensively. He’s not a clinical forward. Even he doesn’t know what his best role is. He also doesn’t understand the offside rule.

That old chestnut. Nice. Because I’ve never won anything it means I can’t have an opinion. It also doesn’t take away from the fact that the Club/Pep don’t always get it right in transfer or selections.

Will agree to disagree with folk on Mahrez and whether he should get a bumper extended contract. But will leave two final questions related to the final match of the season against Villa.

When we needed the win to secure the title and we got what we needed where:
(1) was Mahrez?
(2) were Sterling and Jesus?

Where were Sterling and Jesus when City wanted to make the CL final? On 2 different occasions?

Mahrez put us there once and should have put us there twice.

What about the other 37 games?

What about the penultimate game vs West Ham? Who stepped up to ensure Liverpool doesn't win the title by smashing Southampton and Wolves and winning by goal difference? Wasn't that Grealish and Mahrez? What about the contributions of KdB, Rodri, Zinc and especially Gundo in that last game? Since you're after Mahrez, what about his 24 goals, 9 assists, CL goals, etc.? More importantly, what about the joy of watching that spectacular ball control?

Padded out a little last year due his taking a few penalty’s.

I’ll give you three numbers which maybe signal why no other clubs have shown interest:
31
27
25
I'll give two names:
Benzema
Hazard

At the perfect age to give him the extension considering Palmer is coming in.

Mahrez - 31, Palmer - 20 --> Palmer get's backup minutes (20%) to Mahrez and learns the system more (next season)
Mahrez - 32, Palmer - 21 --> Palmer starts getting more minutes, perhaps around 40% compared to Mahrez 60%
Mahrez - 33, Palmer - 22 --> Palmer starts edging Mahrez for minutes, around 60% and Mahrez 40%

4th season Palmer is the main man on the RW, another academy player becomes his backup as Mahrez departs. We don't need a 34 year old winger at this stage and I'm sure he can finish his career in the MLS or something.

And how did Mahrez perform in the big dance against Chelsea two years ago? About as well as he did against Villa in the match that counted. Anonymous.

A strange argument from both of you tbh.

But in the Pep era there is only Aguero who has scored more goals than Sterling, so I'm guessing in these other games through his City career he has been banging goals in and assisting enough times not to have a comparison like that thrown around.

Both talented, both capable of sublime games and both capable of going missing.

Mahrez wins hands down on ball control though, it is a thing of beauty seeing him kill a ball dead.
