Maybe the more stategic thinkers knew our end game options were all positive in this instance. They accept, we get the player at our acceptable price.Ridiculous public pursuit of a player if we were never going to go near their asking price why bother?
They don't accept, we walk away and set another precedent for people dealing with us - don't take the pee or you risk losing a great opportunity (it's not as if our offers are miserly by any ounce of the imagination).
Win win for us either way (some wins being preferable to others, but all contributing to our future sustainability in some way).
It will help us in future transfers... brilliant approach.It's the other way round actually. The impression we are creating is that we are prepared to pay a fair valuation but we won't have the piss taken out of us.

Not sure about that. It depends how badly we believed we need to land him. 10 or 15 million either way is peanuts these days. I think this philosophy has merit when dealing with player demands e.g. Sanchez because off the knock on effect but if we really wanted or needed him does it matter if it is 75 or 95 million.

Read something a couple of weeks ago about how Mahrez had the wrong agent, basically saying if he had Mendes/Kia etc he'd have been at a bigger club on bigger wages a few years ago.
We can complain that City left it late, but Mahrez hasn't positioned himself for an easy exit for a player who's wanted out previously
