One one hand we've got the 'FFS Txiki, pay the money you useless c**t' brigade and on the other, we have people like yourself, who have decided to give a player an arbitrary value then get all ouraged if we have the audacity to go above it.

I'm think the club has a much better idea of what represents value than any of us on here.
Well said Roy. These completely artificial discussions about whether a player worth more or less than a completely arbitrary number are destroying many of the transfer forum threads for me.

The suggestion that we should just walk away from a deal at £35m as though it will teach selling clubs a lesson is totally ridiculous. There's nothing Leicester would like more than for us sod off as far as this transfer goes. I think they'd much prefer that we, or anyone else, would not offer any amount of money for the guy to be honest. They have loads of money already but would find it extremely difficult to attract a player of his quality as a replacement regardless of how much they're willing to spend. I don't think even £70m would be that great a deal for them.

I feel like there's an imperative to sign Mahrez for less than the £65m Leicester demanded in January, otherwise we basically fucked up by not getting him then, when he could have helped us in the FA Cup and/or CL.

You can't play hardball by walking away in January only to pay up 4 months later.

What makes you think the clubs valuation changed?

And what mskes you think that was the valuation anyway, oh yes the daily star said so!

There's always more than we get to know about
I didn't say anything about what I believe the valuation to be. I just asked why the OP thinks that City's valuation would have changed since January. I don't like these artificial price discussions at all because like you I don't think anyone really know what the numbers are or should be. I trust City to get the valuation right, and pay exactly what they think a player is worth.

Which club?

If City's valuation hasn't changed then he either won't arrive, or he'll arrive for less than the amount demanded in January.
Correct :-)
Now my point really is that we do not know what was demanded in January, nor what City were willing to pay. Same about now off course. The discussion is quite difficult I would say.

Well if you're going to take that approach then we don't know that Mahrez is even a target so why bother posting about him on the transfer forum at all?
