Riyad Mahrez

One of those ridiculous situations... Leicester are happy to sell, we want to buy, the player is desperate to move, we're not that far apart on price...

Yet stubborness is wasting everyone's time. Could have had him in for pre-season.
He's not due back until the middle of July is he? Other than that, cool story bro'

It does sound a plausible way of testing a players character and could account for why many of our transfers are so protracted. Hope it's true.

Thing is, Mahrez has made it oh-so-clear that he wants out, at this point. Now Leicester could hold him to his contract, but I'll be truly astonished if he's still with them at the start of the season. So he will be somewhere else. I'd put good money on that. And we're his first port of call.
We need to be patient, and we're right to be patient. The club's handling this very well.

Exactly, Leicester has more to lose in this transfer than we do.

If we don't get him, we just look to another player that will add more depth to our already record breaking team, filled with top quality attacking players. If Leicester don't sell him, they're left with a player who's been pandering for his move for 2 seasons and is going to absolutely seething that he missed out on his big move again.

There aren't going to be a queue of clubs willing to offer more than we will and this is why Leicester don't really have the power in these negotiations - they can want £80m all they want, but that's never going to happen.

Should give them a deadline & walk away, seems all is in order apart from Leicester giving him a pay-off by all accounts.

They either do it & get a big wedge from us or don't and keep him.
Patience is the key to all negotiations. Luckily Txiki & his team understand this... It's all about the end result & we have another 5 weeks before it's squeaky bum time & I'm sure we have alternatives identified just in case.

This stand-off works for City until such time as Mahrez gets a bit twitchy and worries it might not happen. Then he'll be asking his agent to look for other potential clubs. Txiki's approach is to lock the player into a 'gentleman agreement', make sure they are 100% committed to coming to City thus eliminated competition. If a player renegades on the gentleman's agreement then he'll be deemed not the right type of character to come to City unless he's called Laporte and changes his mind :)
Laporte wanted to stay put, not go elsewhere & he had his valid reasons.

Well come what may only 37 days left for this transfer window remaining open. Either the silence indicates we are working to get it done or already is done or there is complete stalemate and nothing is happening. However that transfer window clock is ticking.
