i plan on doing the manchester to blackpool cycle trip this year,
if any of you non cyclist wanna join in its a nice healthy 60 odd mile,
oh sorry bet you couldn't do 60 meters sorry.

I'm thinking of doing this have you done it before?

do you need a road bike or can you do it on a MTB
Is it a fairly flat track?

I did it last year was a good run, i did it on a mtb with some road tyres on. Was ok, my mate did it on mtb with knobbly tyres on and struggled. Going to be doing it again this year its 12th July i think. Was a few hills in the route but some good flat runs mostly.

How long did it take, did you train much or just go for it?

Took about 4 and half hours i think or just over, did try and get out on my bike before but only went out about 4 times lol. Wasnt that bad really. Did it with my uncles so took it nice and easy we tried to avearge about 14mph. Was a sunny day to :-). Loads of people do it so its a good day you feel knackerd when you have completed it but its good feeling. Just took plenty of water with us and i took some energy bars. Also if you do go take a puncture repair kit or a spare inner tube.

The web page is <a class="postlink" href="http://www.bike-events.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bike-events.com/</a> for more info

Got 2 cars and a bike so pay plenty of road tax, still prefer going to work on the bike though its only 3 miles away. Bus drivers are twats though, generally.

Cheers for the info guys, I'm well up for it now just bought a mountain bike will have to buy some road tyres though!

Start line is the swamp??????????? maybe we should have our own start line at COMS......

i've not done it before but my dad did it years ago, he said he would do some training if i were you but i suppose you could just go at your pace! i got a road bike there is no rule about doing on a road bike, just makes it easy on yourself i suppose, being lighter and all that,

us bluemooners should meet up a little earier at coms and ride to the swamp if thats the offical start,

i drive as well so do pay my road tax for any of you moaning about that, lol

this will piss you drivers off bet you didn't know they shut the roads so we can do this manchester to blackpool CYCLE trip.

lol

I was going through Leyland last year when the ride was on, proper nice day and was funny seeing the unfit uns as the side of the road knackered with a look on their face saying "Why the hell did I say I would do this".

I need to get back out on mine.

On a slightly related note, has anyone seen the British Cycling Team out and about in Manchester. Over the last year or two, every so often you encounter a pack of British Cyclists on the roads. Quite nice to see. I've often thought of beeping at them in a kinda of "yay" way, but fear as I'm in a white van they might interpret that as a "move" kind of way!
