Rob Gretton remembered

Great piece , first met Rob 1977/78 at rafters when Slaughter and the dogs played me and my mate watching what records he was playing ,then got to know him through mutual friends in the gardener's pub always friendly and a good laugh.ps got the poster the night of the gig and funny enough just found the ticket in an old book last week.

A lot of people on here will remember Rob Gretton, as big a blue as ever there was. On what would have been his 72nd birthday, I've posted a piece reminiscing about our times together ... and a lot of those times involve City. There's a couple of City-related stories on there that might be interesting/amusing to fellow Blues. Here's the link: https://shorturl.at/8HFAf

Cheers!
Cracking read that.

I was born in Wythenshaw and lived in Baguely for the early part of my life. My mum went to Benchill School in the 50/60's. I'm a bit too young to remember the early music scene in Manchester. Ian Curtis had already passed before I discover Joy Division, but their records blew me away. I kind of grew up around the dance music scene of the late 80's early 90's and regularly went to the Hacienda. Saw Rob knocking around quite a bit, but I never realised at the time what an absolute legend of a man he was.

Bet he played Police and Thieves. Happy heavenly 72 Rob.

Hooky hung him out to dry with his fucking book.
I read that book and although he can spin a good yarn and tells a good story he does come across as very arrogant and it’s everyone’s else fault rather than mine.

He did do a job on a few people and even got close to the mark with a remark about Gillian which I though was out of line.
