Robert Smith (The Cure) when being inducted in the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame

He’s still a brilliant musician and writer.

Well . . . a very good one IMO. Not brilliant to me. I think about them as two different bands -- up to Pornography, and then after it. Everyone I hung out with loved them so I heard all of their stuff regularly. I never thought either incarnation was especially innovative (though I thought Killing An Arab was), but I also never thought they took themselves as seriously as everyone else did either. Anyhow, In Between Days was always my favorite of their tunes . . . and even then I still like Superchunk's cover of it better than the original, which I am sure is sacrilegious.

Now I’ve reached sixty I’m going to grow my hair, back comb it and wear lipstick.
See you next time you’re over!

Absolutely 100% agree, mate.

Always remember a performance on The Tube (17:30, C4, Friday - the memories) where they did Running town, Bring me the head of the preacher man and Blow the House Down and it blew the mind of this impressionable 15-year old...!
My fav Siouxsie footage is the early 100 Club stuff, all over u tube...They are absolutely incredible. Make up Break up is probably the best live track ive ever listened to.soooh much energy cascading down from Siouxsie Sioux to the audience of pissed up males ,who are completely in awe of her power beauty and vocal range.Siouxsie put everything into those early 100 club performances ,proper Punk,at its finest...way before the Arabian Nights and Hong Kong Gardens, two very fine singles in their own right, just not a patch on the raw energy of proper punk Siouxsie. .and then..she changed again...into a Goth,..Gothic Punk was born, every alternative female in the uk looked liked Siouxsie ,Fantastic band.

Brilliant band live back then. I managed to see them two or three times before I turned 15.

This one would have been 1977

Seen them live many times including following them to Barcelona which is where my love affair began with the club, city & people. They have long been my favorite band

This is hilarious, and I understand the British disdain for peppy, over-enthusiastic American behavio(u)r. The Cure were a kick, and please note Robert Smith was a very early contributor to South Park, an additional plus.

However, I'd also like to point out that a 60 year-old man still wears lipstick and the same hairstyle he did 35 years ago. Iconic or not, it's still a bad look.

Only on stage. Same as Alice Cooper. He looks more like a stockbroker when he isn't, and rather cleverly can wander around with barely anyone recognising him.
