roberto de matteo sacked

unless something is happening behind closed doors that no one knows about then this doesn't seem a very sensible thing to do.

Should I take it from this you think Roman's done the wrong thing in sacking RDM now ?
Probably not, but isn't the point that his haphazard and ill considered approach to running his football club lead to Di Matteo's appointment in the first place?

I don't find his approach ill considered at all. It's very simple. He wants to win, and a manager who doesn't deliver gets the arse. Contrary to the prevailing discourse, Chelsea's trophy haul since Roman bought the club is second to none. So sacking managers has done him no harm on the field so far.

Though it could be argued that if he hadn't flirted Mourinho off when he did then Chelsea may have an even bigger trophy haul.

No doubting that Roman's trigger-happy policy hasn't had too adverse an effect so far in terms of trophies won but there isn't an infinite pool of managers out there that are of the kind of quality that you would expect Chelsea to be interested in and there will come a point where they may well have no-one to turn to. I mean, if Pep comes in and he too gets binned off what the hell will they do then?

For what it's worth, I didn't think RDM would be up to the job but he did more than enough during his caretaker tenure to deserve the chance to prove he was. To sack him while they're going through their first blip is typical of RA's impatience.

What also seems to me to be the case there is that when the players don't want a manager they stop playing for him. Cue a run of awful results and a sacking. Happened with Scolari, happened with AVB, happened with RDM now. And will probably happen to the next man in charge as the players hold all the power at the club.

I think we could have gone the same way, but the club made it clear that approach wasnt going to work.

Winning the chimps league was the kiss of death for di matteo,he was never going to better it and its cost him his job..
Throw into the mix a scatterbrain for an owner and you got a lethal cocktail..
How can a manager get sacked by west brom go on to win the chimps league and then get shown the door four months and 12 games into a season.....the footballing world has gone mad..
Thank god we have sensible owners who know rome wasn't built in a day..

Benitez on a flight to London from Abu Dhabi apparently.

It's Romans last chance saloon for Torres, he obviously does not want to look the fool who payed 50m for another Chelsea striker that has under-performed!

The Roberto Di Matteo respect thread

OK he doesn't have anything to do with City but he deserves some respect instead of the shit that he got from that crazy tycoon.

Good luck Rob.

Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez responds to Roberto Di Matteo's Chelsea exit, and tells Sport 360 website: "I have just found out (about Di Matteo). Obviously Chelsea is a top side and they can compete for trophies so it goes in this category."

The former Liverpool boss is currently in Abu Dhabi where he works as a pundit. The website says he is due to fly to the UK tonight.

Bentitez adds: "In football a lot of people are talking so we will see what happens in the next few days. I am looking for a club that can challenge for trophies and Chelsea is one of these clubs."
