The City Dave Watson would have been knocking on for 40 in ‘84.

I know they allowed overage players but that would have been pushing it.

Was hardly a vintage England team.
Dave Watson was one of my favourite players when i was a kid. Hard as nails and a great header on him. He always seemed to have a cold sore, well he did on every poster and Panini sticker i had of him: )

Watson played against us in ‘85 IIRC for Notts County in our infamous 3-2 defeat.
 
Tommy Caton (Arsenal). Another player we should never have sold. Another master stroke from Swales.

Unlike some others like Owen and Barnes, I’m sure it was Caton agitating for the move away himself.

Probably true but a big fat pay rise and ‘give us another year’ might have swung it.

Swales allowed an awful lot more talent to leave City than just Barnes and Owen by the way.
 
I went to another England V Italy U21/23 game at Maine Road. Well before this one though. Probably ‘77 ish.

I think Barnes, Owen and possibly even Corrigan as an over age player were all in the England team.

In fact, this was the one Rossi played in and Corrigan did play
