The one thing that concerns me with cavani is before he was with napoli wasn't he terrible?? Is it possible that with our non-counter attacking approach this may not suit him?

Had two straight 15 goal seasons when he was with Palermo when he was 21-22. Wouldnt call that terrible imo.

Both RVP or Cavani or anyone else for that matter, would be a gamble. Are our current strikers so far below these players that we have to replace them ?

Are we sure that new players will instantly fit in better than the players we have now, & that our current strikers won't be better next season, having spent another season at City & won the league ?

Is it really nailed on that Van Persie or any of the other rumoured striker targets are a guaranteed improvement on what we have already ?

Don't fix it unless its broke...

That logic doesnt really apply in football tbh.

RVP absolutely would do better than what Tevez, Balotelli, and Dzeko did last season. He comfortably outperformed Aguero aswell in a much weaker side but I sense both would score alot of goals together as they are world class and inteliigent, couldnt see RVP scoring more than he did here(37 goals overall) but 30 would be well in his grasp.

-- Fri Jul 06, 2012 9:33 am --

The negativity is amazing in here IMO.

You won't be paying a ridiculous fee for him, Robin's statement has all but ended any chances of that. High wages but he'll justify them and more.

He's over the injury issues, has as much chance of breaking down as any of your other players. He's far more robust these days.

If we do buy him will RM play him as an forward or will he play him in behind the main forward.....maybe as a replacement for Silva on occasions or with silva....

Football is going the way barca and the Spain national team played at the euros (IMHO)....I thnk that is what RM maybe trying to achieve here.....quick, skillfull players with superb first touches and interchanging play

I therefore think that if RVP does coem to city he WONT score as many goals as he did for arsenal, purely because he was the sole focal point at arsenal...he wont be here...he wil be one of a group of 4-5 very very good attacking players

On a negative point, if he was to replace tevez (or even Edin) we would lose their work rate (especially from Tevez).....last season we saw the frontplayers including Mario (who is clearly learning what RM wants and you even saw it in his performances for Italy) working hard and closing down quickly (just like the Barca front players do)...will RVP do this...im not sure?

Good post :)

Personally I rate the Tevez pre-meltdown higher as he has a bigger impact on games but RVP is a more clinical finisher.

Aguero lulled in winter somewhat and it's his first season and he still did great. I think he will set the prem alight this comin campaign. He and RVP ar eboth very clever players and would compliment each other well.

Dzeko is a level or 2 below RVP
Balo is the same but I believe he can be better with guidance, patience and effort (his effort). He is a BIG game player and he can be as good as he wants to be.

RVP, I want him but at no more than 15-18 mill and 180k a week. Cavani is the player I want but at half the price and prem suited (and excelling) RVP is a snip. Still wouldn't say it's a done deal. If Usmanov can crank pressure on Kroenke and wrestle power away anything could happen. We all thought Rooney was a goner but he stayed so this could happen with RVP too. Usmanov injecting £150m in the club will change things, absolutely.

Maybe Van Persie felt a little aggrieved that day when he shouted fuck-off to the South Stand and practically right in front of me.

I actually smiled. He had been kicked in the head by Adebayor and half the crowd were calling him a rapist.

He went on to score truly amazing goal and also hit the post with another.

We may have won the game that day but it could have ended-up 5-5.

last season, Van Persie scored a fucking incredible disallowed goal, chipping Joe at our place with hardly time to think.

It was ruled offside, but it wasn't for me.

Game changer is Van Persie, like Sergio, very few of them about.

IMO we will play with him as the finisher. Aguero is a better allround player and makes more happen whereas RVP is as clinical a striker as you'd find. I think RVP will make lay offs but ultimately he will be fed by Silva, Aguero and Nasri.

Tevez is off I reckon. Khaldoons interview gave a clear insight into the clubs feeling on things. Mancini kept it strictly business in keeping him for the run in. I am sure he wants rid just like Adebayor and Bellamy.

-- Fri Jul 06, 2012 10:49 am --

Liverpool and Chelsea games taught me most about him. Feed him and he will finish. Volley against Liverpool was a finish I don't think any of our players could pull off. Incredible technique to hit that so flush and with such finesse.

If you remember that 4-2 match, there was alot of tension between Adebayor and RVP, Ade actually raked him down the side of the face with his studs.

Robin is a feisty character, he wants to win and when he celebrates he sticks it to opposition fans. You love it when he does it for you, opposition fans hate it. It's no biggie.

I fail to see how signing RVP could be anything but an exciting thing for City, I say that through gritted teeth as we are fooked in the next few seasons LOL.

I'd say when he can be bothered Balo has a better work-rate than Dzeko.

jlc09, do you think Van Persie is a big ego? I remeber he wanted to fight with Krul and refused to shake Caldwell's hand(both after matches.)?

And tbf we were shocking that day in the 4-2, Hughes completely mugged us tactically and not for the first time. Got us at QPR this season aswell, Zamora having one of his few good games of the season when we turn up.
