LOL
LOL at robbie talking about being the best in the world when hes not even the best player in the prem.
Where has he said he's the best player in the world? Is there anything wrong with aiming to be?
Some City fans don't know what they've got. Robinho is a magician.
exactly what I said earlier, Robinho says he wants to be best player in the world and thinks he can achieve this at City, shock horror, perish the thought that we have an ambitious player in our squad who wants the team to do well in order to improve himself. whats wrong with WANTING to be the best at your chosen proffesion. Imagine if the same were applied to Chris Hoy say 5 years ago before he dominated cycling, would he be derided in the same way? same goes for any sport or any job for that matter,
there seems to be an endemic acceptance of mediocrity amongst some people in this country, and it seems particularly so at city amongst certain elements in the crowd.
i think you're right in it being a cultural thing:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagom
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jante_law
... for us it was/is christianity and lutheranism. as late as the early 1900's we still had "bibelförhör" (bible tests) where the preacher would come and knock on your door uninvited and put you through the test. and we didn't really pass on socialism and "solidarity" (rephrasing "lagom") until the early 90's. without being to educated in history and social psychology i suppose the church had to take extra measures against the heathen vikings or something, a bond we never really broke but only traded for and intellectualised with socialistic values... these days few swedes are faithful christian or socialists, but the remnants of the deep indoctrination is still there...
if we compare it to brazil, who's been a portugese colony for some 2-300 years, perhaps there's a greater understanding for individuality and less indoctrination from state and church in the constructs of their history? they came
out of colonisation and slavery
into independence. and it's a whole other social psyche.
but enough of the off topic stuff...
i can see it happening. he's got a great window in the brazil nationals and might have another one in city if things go according to plans.
and his ambition is brilliant. just the sort of thing i want to hear from the players in general and not only robinho. if city are gonna be the best club in the world, then citys best player......
so, yeah, i agree with the OP's enthusiasm. i think it's a sign of a form of leadership qualities we need to take the next step and it'd be a horrid mistake to smother it.
so more egos at city please. don't ask, just take - the pundits can shine his shoes. if he says he wants to be the best i'm all for it.
