Robinho: 'No fall-out with Mancini' - Exclusive

Robinho has insisted he has not fallen out with Roberto Mancini and vowed to prove his worth to the Manchester City boss.

City's £32.5million striker suffered the indignity of being taken off with half-an-hour left in a 2-0 defeat at Everton last weekend, after himself coming on as a substitute.

The Brazilian stormed straight down the tunnel, fuelling rumours of a fall-out with Mancini, who left him on the bench for City's 2-1 Carling Cup semi-final win over Manchester United.

But Robinho, a summer target for Barcelona, has vowed to prove he has the work ethic to be a success at City, after being criticised for his perceived lack of effort and commitment.

"I don't have a problem with Mancini," said Robinho. "It's normal for a player to want to play but the coach makes the decision and I accept it.

"I've spoken with Mancini. I know what he expects from me and I'll work hard to do that for the team.

"I'm a professional, I'm dedicated and I always give everything in training. It's untrue to say otherwise.

"I want to be successful at City, I don't want to leave. I want to win things here and that's why I left Real Madrid for this challenge.

"What happened against Everton was rare. It's rare for any player to be substituted after coming on. But again, it was for the team.

"I don't think my World Cup place is at risk. The Brazil coach, Dunga, knows what I'm capable of and has confidence in me."

Robinho admitted it was hard to accept playing no part in City's epic win over United on Tuesday as Mancini overlooked him on the bench in favour of three other substitutes.

But the Brazil star said he respected Mancini's decision and vowed to prove he is worthy of inclusion in the team for next week's decisive return leg at Old Trafford.

"The Carling Cup is our first big chance for a trophy," said Robinho. "For me, it will be very hard not to play in the return leg against United.

"I wanted to play in the first game but the coach decided against it. It was a great game and these matches are always special.

"City have a 2-1 advantage from the first game but matches at Old Trafford are always difficult."

Good interview and very level-headed comments from Robbie.

Fuck the haters who love calling him names and slagging him off, No doubt they'll find something in this interview they don't like to use it as an excuse to slate him more. They can all fuck off and support the rags as far as I'm concerned!

lol he got slagged off for sitting on the bench last match.

The lads needs goals and confidence. Scored 15 last season from left wing. Not bad for some one who's 'shit and lazy'

i dont think anyone is saying he is shit, but its hard to argue he is lazy and has not put enough in when he has played this season. hes as talented as anyone in the lge, but needs to put alot more effort in.

Firts of all, I'm not a Robbie-hater. On the contrary, the man's an incredible player and would be a major asset for any club anywhere in the world.
But to me this interview isn't treading any new ground - he's only saying what you'd expect him to say.

If he could deliver the good where he's paid to deliver them then he wouldn't need to do interviews like this one.

Listen to you all getting giddy.

It's just interview twaddle. It's totally meaningless.

If you think he's not bothered about being left out of the team you are deluded.

Between the lines, I read in there he's had a bollocking for not training hard enough.

Defiantly this , and mancini hurt his ego on purpose by not even letting him play in the big game.

If he knuckles down he will be in that team no manager would leave him out without a reason.

The way I see it, he's just not been playing that well... and that happens to everyone in football.

He has never really tracked back much nor tackle (ever) and he has always pulled out of challenges. That's Robinho, that's the way he is. He's not very big and he's a bit of whimp. But that's OK, because we didn't buy him to be Nigel de Jong, did we.

We didn't mind when he was beating defenders for fun and scoring and creating goals. But now his form has dipped and we are on his back.

It strikes me he is low on confidence and needs to be loved (I get the impression lots of Brazilian players are similarly needy). And it can't be easy when you get subbed off as a sub and get boo'd off to go with it. We need to show the guy some support, show him he's loved, and we will get the old Robinho back.

Or we can keep boo'ing him, he will never get his confidence back and will never start and will leave in the summer. Up to us really. Personally, I'd rather have one of the most talented footballers in the world staying and dazzling us with scintilating football.
