He definitely needs to play in a double pivot with a faster midfielder like Bernardo (been a big success in a 4231). Too slow to play by himself at CDM

This seems like the Javi Garcia project all over again. A player like Ndidi acting as a sweeper in the midfield along with Rodri might just be what we need to make this work.

Problem with that is by and large we shouldn’t be looking to compromise. Us at our best has been 2 attacking midfielders with the legs to press with someone sat behind with the agility to sweep up. Going forward next season the attacking mids with the legs to do that are KDB, Bernie and Foden. If we have to just play Kev to accommodate Rodders it’s a big step backwards for me. Maybe it’s not fair to judge him until we have Laporte alongside Dinho rather than calamity one and two. Rodri is undoubtably a good player but does have a big lack of pace and that’s not going to change after a transitional season.

Rodri: “It's frustrating. We do everything we can, work so hard, prepare incredibly well, put on the pitch what we trained during the week. We create chances, don't concede anything, have 18 shots, miss one penalty, hit the post, the crossbar, etc..."

“I wonder if football is being fair with us, because we create, try, and yet, it is not enough. Sometimes it's a matter of luck, the ball doesn't go in. This is football. With all the chances we create, we could score twice the goals we have..."

“We are going to keep fighting and we are going to reverse the situation. The most difficult thing about football is to keep winning. This team have become champions two years in a row. When you are champions, it's always difficult to keep winning..."

“It's hard. We need to keep going, the title race is not in our minds, but we have one final to play, and more competitions to play, so we have to keep fighting with good mentality. There is still a long way to go until the end of the season.”

"Now football is not giving us the luck or the chances, we need to be strong mentally, we still have half of the season left, we are alive in other competitions, we have a final in the horizon, so we have to keep fighting.” [via @ManCityMEN]

It's a terrible opinion!
Why? Rodri has shown that he can't cover the defensive midfield all by himself like Fernandinho because he's not quick and agile enough. But he has excelled with Bernardo as a faster B2B next to him in a pivot, which allows Rodri to dictate the tempo. Not really rocket science

You never change the team system to accommodate an individual, even if it's Messi. Rodri is a bright lad, very bright in fact, he will learn to adapt to being the only pivot. I'd say he's done a damn good job so far, he's not Fernandinho but that's an unfair comparison because even Fernandinho wasn't the Fernandinho we know now in his very first season.

It's not really changing to a Pivot to accommodate Rodri, it's changing to a pivot so we become less threatened by counters like we've been this season. It may be because we've had Laporte out for the whole season, but Rodri not having the legs and tackling ability of Fernandinho also plays a huge part. So playing him in a pivot until he's fully accustomed to the PL is a good solution in my opinion
