I guess I remember the supporter reactions during the first year of their tenures differently.

I remember a lot of “he’s not good enough”, “he’s too small for the Premier League”, “we’ll never win anything with him in the side”, “he was never an attacking midfielder at Barca, why would he be here”, “I wish we had pipped the Rags for that promising young lad from Watford”, and “Chris Smalling will win more trophies than him, FFS”.

;-)

I certainly do remember things differently!!

I was at Spurs away and the next game where we battered Liverpool and me and my mates were blown away by how Yaya never gave the ball away and how comfortable he was in midfield

It was 10 years ago so let’s not get too bogged down with that but let’s accept that some fans doubted them but were proved wrong. There have been countless times when fans have been correct, think Mangala, Bony etc

He had an uneven season but I think he will be fine. Doesn't have top mobility but he just needs to get more comfortable and be more consistent with his positioning and he will be fine. I believe he is a mentality monster and once he gets settled in, he will show his class. He's still quite young and was asked to play arguably the most important position in our system. If he had more time to settle in and rotate with Dinho, it would have been more beneficial but due to things outside his control, Dinho was shifted to CB and he had more on his plate. I still believe though. I strongly believe next year will be better.

Inconsistent but that's not surprising. Some games he is dominant. Reads things perfectly, gets into the right positions and finds the rights passes. Others he is running the wrong side of players, struggling to get into position and looking like he's stuck in the mud.
