At Atletico he had other midfielders around him that run themselves into the ground. Dave and Gundogan are far from that kind of player so don't be surprised if he looks somewhat exposed when those two are playing in front of him. His job is to sweep up vs players that break our press, not much he can do when there is no pressing and he has to defend on his own.

I’m not overly keen to be honest, however, it is early doors.

Looks a good player, don’t get me wrong, been MOTM level in a couple of games. But we’ve had Yaya Touré and Fernandinho playing here in the past and those two are on another level entirely to Rodri.

He’s slow, his first touch isn’t great, he’s daudled on the ball many times in many games, his forward passing isn’t incisive or he doesn’t even pass forward when it’s on, he gets in a rut of not working hard to find space to be passed to in at times in games (even in games he’s actually played really well in).

I am being extremely critical here, I know, but I’m comparing him to two club legends and two of the best midfielders in the world of the last decade so the comparison is there and I just feel we’ve signed a player who’s not going to keep that level of quality going in our team in this position and it’ll have to be somewhere else in the team we have that quality to keep us being as good as we’ve been this decade.

He just looks a good, steady player. But nothing special.

Talk about not giving him a chance,he has come from a ultra defensive team in a slower league,he needs to learn a hell of a lot here, why do you underestimate how long it takes players to adapt to a pep style and a faster league?,he has been here a couple of months and is doing great also why compare him to yaya? no-one is yaya,he also had dinho doing all the graft for him,why compare him to dinho? dinho wasn't dinho when he got here,he evolved as time went on,there is only ever going to be one dinho, comparisons are not relevant imo,you do rodders a diservice

It’s because Fernandinho is still a better player than him and we still have Fernandinho.

That's not really fair is it lol, dinho would have a coronary playing in his usual position at his age
Based on what? I’d argue Fernandinho is the fittest player at City. He’s like an 800m runner.

I just want the best players playing in their best positions as well as as few players playing out of position as possible.

I genuinely think Fernandinho and Bernardo should be playing in our midfield.

Rodri is the long term replacement but he’s still not as good as Fernandinho and we still have Fernandinho.

I love him but give him a break,i don't think he can keep going at the same rate pushing 35,that is not to say i wouldn't like to see him in the middle for some games

His fitness won’t be that much diminished from January when Fern and Bernardo made Liverpool’s midfield look like a bunch of nobodies. Their energy and work rate (as well as quality) are what won is that game and it was our biggest game of the season.
