Rodri Injury Updates | City say ligament injury (pg117)

But this is my point really. There is no ideal "Rodri back-up" that exists in the world - nobody for Begiristain and Pep to find. Rodri's skillsets and attributes are unique. There are no midfielders in the world who fit the profile City fans want. Nobody who's as tall or strong, composed or measured, or as positionally disciplined - and especially not someone who has all those attributes, can be purchased for around £50m (or less), and will be happy to rotate in and out of the team whenever Rodri's fit. As I've said in other threads, literally every key player in our squad would be hugely missed were he to be injured long-term and sometimes you just can't legislate for that. You can't just stockpile like-for-like players on the off chance that someone ends up being injured for nine months. That's not realistic or fair, and when clubs like Chelsea do it they end up looking like a clown car.

The best City can do - in fact, the best any team can do - is build a squad of versatile players who can compensate for the skills of injured key players should they ever go missing. We've done that. Starting from the back and moving forward, we've seen over recent years that Lewis and Stones can easily slot into a two-man midfield behind the attacking line. As can Akanji in more extreme circumstances. Gvardiol has the skillset to at least be tried there. That's without getting into the midfielders we actually have, such as Kovacic and Gundogan, who have played as central midfielders their entire career, occasionally dropping to the base of the midfield when required. There's also talk of someone like Grealish being moved back there because of his strength, workrate, and ability to control the game. We tried with someone like Kalvin Phillips but he was permanently broken by that shoulder injury, and even he's never played on his own in the way Fernandinho and Rodri have done over the years.

Rodri being out for months on end is shit but people need to get their heads around the fact that an ideal clone exists who can just step in at a moment's notice.

Great post. Very rarely a player in his position is made favorite for a Ballon Do'or. There is literally nobody who can replace him. Definitely nobody who would be happy to sit on the bench anyway.

I would personally go back to the 4 solid defenders we had at the back end of the treble season who didnt push forwards as much with Kovacic in front. Let Gundogan play alongside him so we have control of the tempo and the other 4 can carry on as usual.

I'm not too worried about the smaller games as we have done ok without him already this season but its games like Saturday it becomes a concern.

Sadly not in this case, even if it's not an ACL, it's a significant injury and he will be out for a long time.

Going straight to Dr Cugat is not a good sign.
Maybe the tests he had in Manchester were inconclusive and so he was sent to the best. It's more likely though that they know the prognosis and Cugat will determine the treatment required. Im pretty sure that a movement of the leg can determine the possibility and with City having the clinic on the doorstep with the CT Scan they will have the scan results

Everybody should stop flapping and trust Pep to come up with a solution if Rodders is out for a long period.

We have Guardiol, Stones, Akanji, Kovacic, Gundogan, Stones and Grealish who could all do a job there.

Remember when we were struggling for a left back and Pep put Fabian Delph in that position, he took to it like a duck to water.

I suspect Guardiol will be the answer with Lewis at left back.

Unfortunately there really is no such thing as a sprain where the ACL is concerned. If it is partially injured it becomes stretched and does not recover its original shape, it undergoes a process called plastic deformation. It therefore remains slack and allows extra movement which if sufficient stressed goes onto complete rupture with consequent instability and risk of further damage to menisci and other structures.
It is therefore advisable to reconstruct the ligament before any further damage occurs.

excellent insight. had to say that in a comment as the like button might be misconstrued as liking the injury.

Look at the risk of getting flamed I don't think Pep will have been happy to see Haaland stoke the fires in that way and provide extra motivation. Clearly personal rivalries are developing on the pitch (even if the managers share great mutual respect and friendship) and so I think it's safe to say matches between the 2 will from now on need to be watched from behind the sofa. Haaland seemed out of control at times and whilst no doubt City fans will love to see that, it does indicate him getting wound up and it's one thing doing that at his home stadium but he's now created a viper-pit atmosphere for the game at the Emirates. City are more than capable of handling that but why make it even tougher than it would otherwise be? It's like creating an extra trip to Anfield from a City perspective.

Likewise Arsenal's shithousery guarantees City away will from now on be even harder than it was before as the fans will be even more up for it than they were before. I'm thinking City-Madrid of a couple of years ago levels of crowd atmosphere which makes it almost mission impossible.
When Arteta is telling your teenage substitute (Lewis-Skelly, a player yet to make his PL debut at that point) to walk behind the goal to tell Raya to go down and feign an injury to stop the game so he (Arteta) can pass on tactical instructions while your team gets a rest and drinks break, then that is Grade A cheating and tells you everything you need to know about your manager and club. After pulling that sort of shit, targeting Rodri to injure him and so on with your time wasting GK and faking injuries, the gloves are off.

Could you please link? I can't see anything to that effect.
This was the first news yesterday around lunch time, then the bad news came out around tea time None of it confirmed aside from he flew to Spain to see Dr Cugat and further tests are required

It is the reason why Declan Rice chose not to come to City. He knew he wouldn't get a game.
Yeah and Rice is a good player but he’s levels below Rodri. Maybe a loan in January until end of the season would be good For someone. Guaranteed to start most games, potentially 4 trophies then goes back to there club. No idea if there’s a player out there willing to do that tho or for an opposition club to do it as well. Would probably have to be a team not in Europe.
