Rodri - The 2024 Ballon d'Or Winner! (Pg 131)

I think if Rodri was even thinking of going to Madrid he would never now, can you imagine if he did then got told by a Madrid not to attend I think he’s the sort of person to tell them to fuck off and go.
He comes across as a free thinking type so I'd like to think he wouldn't be impressed with the circus act hype that surrounds that club.

Ask yourself one question.

What would the reaction of the footballing world and media have been had City boycotted the ceremony because they thought Rodri should have won…
Haaland was robbed last year and we showed up with smiles and grace and hearty congratulations to the winner.
We do things right regardless of whatever the history clubs think.
When we are exonerated of the charges against us we will simply be the best club on the planet and they all know it.

Much the same as the one madrid are getting I would think.

There is another thread for the mardarse reaction of madrid, so lets try and keep this one for Rodri winning it, and the congratulations he's getting.

From what I've seen, Madrid is getting called out for being petty, small-time, shameful, etc. as they are, and rightfully fucking so. I read an article in the Guardian(I think?) this morning calling them out. From a quick look on Reddit, which is so shite with ANYTHING involving City, that I now avoid it altogether, it is also calling Madrid out.

Lol

There has been pretty much zero negative coverage by the media or pundits.

If we had done it, there would be another 10 charges added and we'd be massacred by every single pundit and media outlet in Europe

Is it not a serious blow to RM?

I know their sense of entitlement is paramount but now their pull on players may be threatened, particularly those they want to buy with this award being the bait they offer.

Presumably this "we are not going where we are not respected" jibe means unless they get their players to win this award they will not be attending in future.
This is the real reason for their toys going flying out of the pram. For the first time, they have lost out to a nouveau riche non-G14 club. (Messi at Miami was different for all sorts of reasons).
When luring the next (for arguments sake) Bellingham or even Alexander Arnold, they can no longer say, "you don't want to go to a club like City, if you have eyes on the Ballon d'Or".
Quite simply, that no longer stands up. Players can achieve anything at Manchester City.
