Rodri won It fair and square, totally deserved, but what a kafuffle, I don't remember the media going to this much trouble when Haaland was robbed last year.

Got to say that I didn't realise that Scholes had such a devastating put-down line in his locker (I've found him thoroughly uninteresting as a pitchside pundit, but then, that's true of so many).

He’s dry as fuck tbf. His tv personality is a bit shit but like most of us who grew up on Langley he’s a pretty funny lad off camera.
Not as funny as me, obviously.

I think the reason they are pissed off is much simpler. I think it's because they know, deep down, that Vini Jnr isn't good enough for the Ballon d'Or; the club probably know it, the fans probably know it, and the player will certainly know it (despite his ego protesting otherwise). Vini Jnr missing out on the award confirms their worst suspicions.

In the past, Madrid players have rightly merited the award (Ronaldo, Modric, Real Ronaldo). This time, Madrid thought their man would win precisely because they are Real Madrid, and the most illustrious prize should go to one of their own, right? Well no, not a fucking bit of it. Rodri has been the best in the world in his position for three seasons straight, culminating with a trophy with the national team. Vini Jnr is not, irrefutably, the best in his position. As evidenced by that list of players that has surfaced, there are dozens of players who are more productive than Vini Jnr. Messi and Ronaldo didn't win their awards through stepovers and dummies, they won because their numbers were staggeringly high, and they maintained this standard for years. If you're an attacker and you want this accolade, these are the kind of standards you have to meet.

Vini missing out has shattered some of Madrid's veneer; Rodri winning has made them realise they can't have it all their own way, and it makes them physically sick.
