Rodri Understudy

No reason not to keep Walker for another season anyway, as well as Kimmich.
If there`s any truth to Saudi clubs going as high as 40m (as per Tolmie) for him, that`s surely a reason. Probably 4 times more than what we would get from a PL club next year

We aren’t desperate for money though we’ve had 10 years from him. I’d keep him, the only specialist full back we have, probably still get £15/£20 mill after that for him.

I’d keep him if he’s happy and then when Sheff United inevitably come back up the following season let him go with our blessings.

Buying Kimmich, keeping Walker seems the obvious answer to the Rodri riddle to me.Don’t know if Pep agrees if he doesn’t he’s obviously an idiot not all he’s cracked up to be:)

If Saudi come calling I imagine the money will be crazily attractive for Kyle at this stage of his career..

Not if he’s heard about Saudi punishments he won’t :), also though if he’s spoken to others that have gone he might not be so keen.

Next season will be Guimares.

Makes sense, we’ve seen how good Kovacic and Rodri are together. Bruno and Rodri together would be a solid two. If we continue the way we are playing with Kev and Foden as two tens,

Bruno and Rodri would compliment each other plus Guimaraes isn’t just a 6 he can play as a 8 as well scoring and creating. Same as Rodri who can score and create. That’s a solid two.

Kovacic has been good but he has injury issues. I think Guimaraes injury record is much better. So could play more with Rodri, then rest Rodri and play Guimaraes and Kovacic when Rodri needs a rest.

Reading the Benfica forum and they’re resigned to the fact that Neves will be joining either us or that lot this summer. Since that lot are not known for making decent signings, I’d infer that we are in pole position.

Could we not already have somebody good enough ready to be a backup option next year, somebody who is currently having an excellent season in La Liga... Maximo Perrone anybody?

He dislodged the club captain to be a definite starter, looks full of quality and very composed on the ball, very rarely misplaces passes and seems press resistant, positionally aware not only of his defensive duties but of opposition players around him, he can also without being very strong handle himself physically.

I think although he's different to Rodri he could still be highly effective for us, if we get rid of him he could turn into a top player one we regret selling in the long run.

Also wouldn't surprise me if he heads to Girona next season if he's needed there, he's potentially good enough to be a squad player here from what I've seen, plus I think everyone would agree the few games he has played for us were also impressive.
Although he definitely improved this season, his stats are mediocre, eg on Fotmob he's rated Las Palmas 11th best player, his overall rating was 6.65 (amber). He was called up for the senior Argentina squad, another good indicator. On reflection he would probably be better of on loan again...
