The guy played more than 60 games for Villareal, yet our scouts couldn't see the his value.

Hopefully they are not the same scouts who didn't notice Virgil when he was playing with Denayer at Celtic.

Not like you to have a dig at our club.......

You would think that we are a failure of a club if you listen to some on here. There is no club in the history of the game that has every recruitment decision correct but are we not record breakers?

Not true imo.

VVD was head and shoulders above. I thought he would struggle in England but he proved his level there too.

Denayer was v good for Celtic too, but again the standard in Scotland makes genuinely good players look amazing.

I mean Majid Bougherra (ex-Charlton) went to Rangers and looked amazing, he didn’t achieve much in English football.

It's not as simple as you think. City were focused on Jorginho's transfer last summer as we wanted a readymade starter to upgrade on Dinho.
Rodri was a known talent with a 20m release clause back then, but he needed at least one more season to prove himself in La Liga. Now he has done it.

Besides, he's an Atletico cantera product, has special affection for them and was always heading back to Madrid.

I don't see what City have done wrong, all the moves were pretty logical.

He didn't. And many of us said it repeatedly and got shouted down. People just blue lensed that period there.

'Outclassed' is probably the wrong word.

Van Dijk did the 'tough' aerial job & was the central defensive figure, & Denayer looked after him when his head went or he missed runners & covered his mistakes, & was also the better footballer.

Both should have been immediately together at City.
