Rodrygo

Not saying Marmoush will/must be a bench player but it would be nice to have a squad allowing us to rotate 3-5 players each game like we used to do without the quality dropping significantly.

Exactly mate, it's what used to give us the edge over everyone else and why we won 4 in a row, we've erred from that path the 2 previous Summers and now we seem to be correcting that and it's great imo.

I don’t think they will be waiting until we play Spurs - I don’t think we can afford to wait. Let’s say Arsenal or Chelsea struggle next weekend, they could pull the trigger on Rodrygo and/or Donnarumma. We will leave ourselves vulnerable to circumstances out of our control

I think both of them want to play for City tbh, Pep's had a crush on Rodrygo for years and Donnarumma would be a fucking loon to sign for the rags or Chelsea next week when City are still an option.

I must emphasize that we will not be signing Rodrygo. He wants to stay at Real Madrid, and Real Madrid have no reason to lower their price. If Manchester City want to get him, they would need to pay a transfer fee close to €100 million as well as a weekly wage of £300,000. That is unacceptable for us.
If everything could have been resolved through negotiations, then a month ago he would have gone to Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern, Liverpool, or Tottenham.
Before Balague’s post, Xabi Alonso also hinted that Rodrygo would stay with the team this season.
So yes, Tottenham’s offer did meet our standard (£68m), but the deal collapsed because we couldn’t afford the cost of a replacement.

We don't have enough money to pay for Rodrygo? What are you, City's accountant?
Romano and other reliable sources are completely ignoring this Brazilian guy's claim which he posted on his IG story.

That makes no sense at all.
We couldn't afford the difference between £68m and whatever Rodrygo costs?

It’s more likely that someone’s had a word in Pep’s shell like and managed to convince him that Rodrygo isn’t that much better than Savinho and we’ve pulled the plug.

Or, we’re stalling the deal until next week.

Calm down. Of course, if we want, we can buy him. But 100m + 300k for Rodrygo? No, better to spend that money on areas where it’s more needed.

Don’t forget, Rodrygo is asking for a salary of £300k per week — that’s four times what Savio earns! And we’d be tying him down to a long-term contract, which is superstar-level treatment.
Financially, yes, we could afford it if we wanted to. But this wouldn’t be a rational investment. We might be better off keeping room for better opportunities, such as Livramento, Wharton, or Baleba...
