I’d be furious if we spent 90m on a player who we didn’t even need and also isn’t that much better than what we have.

Big seasons for Doku and Savinho but they need to be given a fair crack of the whip before we replace them.

Just get a decent right back and we are good to go.

Pep just doesn't want him injured as he's had a lifetime of muscle injuries (which we knew about before he joined City and he's had 2 of them here).

So to keep him healthy and utilize him.. he can't do the minutes you'd expect of a starter..

As far as not rating him.. that's just off the walls crazy stuff, because Pep has played him in big games when he needed his skills.

Don't forget his trivela pass to Nunes or his drawing of the pen vs Spurs in the penultimate game of the 23/24 season.
 
Yeah this was pretty much a non-starter.

We'd have had to flog two of Grealish, Doku, Savinho, or Bobb to make this work.

There's projection and there's reality.. put him against a park the bus team every week like we face, he will not get anywhere close the 20 goals people are hoping for!

Is there even a path currently for those young players? Chances are if we do lose a winger, we’ll be signing another one for 50/60m anyway. Other than foden it’s pretty much been impossible for any academy player to make it at city

Things are about to change massively on that regard.. as we keep getting quoted massive prices for English talent by other clubs.. MGW is just the latest example!

So we will basically have no choice but to give our academy a shot and hope they can develop and plug the holes. If they're not good enough, they're not good enough but as of recently:

Rico is plugging the holes of a utility player.
Nico O'Reilly and Bobb are both likely to make it at City too.

He has repeated the small squad mantra a few times now. Even at the CWC.

I’ll believe it when I see it. We’re still being linked with Livramento and chances are we’ll be buying cheaper from Europe if not.

I’d like to be wrong, but I’m struggling to see how Bobb or O’reily are going to get regular minutes to develop. We’ve just bought a first choice left back and probably another winger as well. Both of which push down their game time.

Coming off the bench or playing in cup games every month or so isn’t enough. We struggle to develop players or give youth players a chance.
 
We don't need him and I don't want him. I'd prefer to go with what we have in that department. Bobb, Doku and Savinho are on a combined 140k a week and all have room for improvement.
Rodrygo is on 200k a week alone at Real Madrid already and Madrid would want a big transfer fee. So if we were to bring him in his annual PSR costs would be very close to Florian Wirtz money. We aren't playing Football Manager, the club still have to run a business the best way possible.

If Rodrygo was a World Class player who would walk into any team in the world then it's a no brainer but he isn't. I'd rather we save the money and go for Livramento - a key position we need to fill.

Too many problems with this deal, high transfer fee, extortionate salary, giving Madrid huge sums of money to further strengthen their squad with better players being brought in. We would be potentially bringing in a player who would cost us a fortune but would be nothing more than a rotational player like Grealish was. If we are paying that kind of money we need to be spending it on players who take us up another level.

oh shes doing what she did before with Camavinga and Bellingham. Doubling down, she made alot of journalists look like idiots the last time.

He obviously wasn’t being serious.

Do you honestly think he’d have resigned if we didn’t reduce the size of the squad? Of course he wouldn’t.

He was just making the point that he wanted it reduced as too many players gave him too many headaches.

Doku’s had 2 years and he still makes all the wrong decisions. No chance he’ll be any different next year. He’ll be moved on next summer 100%

He’s only 23.

Random example but similar position and same club - Mahrez - he was at Le Harve when he was 23 coming off 6 goals in 60 appearances.

Harsh to say he won’t improve anymore when all players develop at different ages.

If he can stay fit and get some consistency then I’m sure he can go up a level with that final ball.
 
If we go for Vini JRs overrated mate for that money after we didn’t move for Kvaratskhelia for less I’ll really question the clubs judgment.
