Got there Monday before game and it kicked off that night. Police cordon outside from then until the coach left and we had an alcohol ban in the hotel. Police escort from Sorrento to Naples then back to the airport sober as a judge.

Booked on this day trip though but I certainly won't go on an overnight one to Italy again.

2014/15 Champions League Group Stage
AS Roma v Manchester City - Wednesday 10th December 2014

DAY TRIP
Provisional Itinerary.

We have a direct day return flight from Manchester leaving around 07.30 a.m., arriving into Rome at approx. 11.00 a.m. local time.
On arrival into Rome our reps will guide you to your coach transfer which will take you to the city centre. Here you will be able to spend the afternoon at leisure where you can enjoy the local hospitality or take in some of Rome’s culture and history with a visit to the Coliseum or Sistine Chapel.
There will be an early evening meeting point (to be advised) at approx 6/6.30 for your transfer to the stadium which will be supervised by the police.
After the match our reps will be outside the AWAY end to guide you to the coaches to take you back to the airport.

Your return flight will land back into Manchester at approx. 02.30 a.m.

£275pp
Price includes return flights, transfers and airport taxes.

Price excludes match ticket.
Match tickets must be obtained through the club in the normal way.

Book online at <a class="postlink" href="http://www.sportoptions.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.sportoptions.com</a> or by calling 01925 755 222
(Unfortunately we cannot take deposits on this occasion. All payments will be final and anyone who is unable to travel must claim via their insurance.)

They're robbing you.

Ciampino to Rome with the couch it's like 6 euro, sometimes 4 if you book it online, it depends on the agency. It may be quite difficult to arrange one at night though, you may want to check carefully the timetables.

Fiumicino, even though I suppose you're not landing on here, it's even easier, you can catch the train to Termini/Ostiense and then take the Metro or whatever you like. Even if you take a taxi is much cheaper than the organized transfer, the fare is fixed, 30 to and from Ciampino, 40 to and from FIumicino, you can share it and it's "nothing". Maximum 4 people or they will apply the taximeter. If they're charging extra for the luggage, you should refuse to pay. Anyway, ask for the price beforehand so you won't have surprises, if they ask for 60 just tell the taxi driver to fuck off. Bigger taxies are of course more expensive. Another thing you may need to know about taxies is that there's a demarcation line, which correspond to the Aurelian Walls, Mura Aureliane in Italian, if you're destination is inside you pay the prices I listed above, outside you pay 10 extra euro, so make sure you're inside if you want to pay less, they tried to cheat me a couple of time although I live pretty much in front of them. Every spot in the city centre is inside, except for the neighbourhoods of Prati (Castel sant'Angelo) and Borgo (Saint Peter).

Hopefully my insights will come in handy.

I agree with other users when they say a one-day trip to Rome is a crime against humanity

A day trip is all I would do when watching football in Italy. As for being a rip off, yes it costs more to do it this way but for a hassle free trip it is worth every penny. You just get to enjoy yourself without worrying about the logistics.

How could anyone do Rome for a day? It's like sex for ten seconds.

Better than nowt.

just about enough time to visit the pizzeria opposite Trevi's Fountain - possibly reason enough for the trip, and to taste some of the many weird and wonderful toppings they put on them

;o)

For that price I'd rather spend a week in Poland and forget about football, but hey that's me.

Who are we playing in Poland? This is a trip to watch City so you don't get to pick where you go. When I want a holiday I go with mywife and kids in the summer

It's a joke mate, I admire every fan who follows his team on the road, it's remarkable, I was just pointing out that means of transport are the only thing relatively cheap in Rome, paying the bus ticket is like an optional, nonetheless I can't blame someone for caring about his own safety.

Still €400 for a day would be like protruding from Saint Peter's dome and start propelling money through air, but then again I'm not his accountant.

I also believe every road game should be a mini holyday too, for example I love going on the road for the 6 Nations but of course the atmosphere is totallly different, so as I much as I love my team I'm very interested in the artistic side of the city as well. One day in Rome and I guarantee you you'll have "heart twinges" the day after if you don't come back soon, you'll regret it.

P.s. Anyway if City reach the Europa League's final I've heard is in Warsaw, you should check out the flights just in case, I've been there last year they really have a knockdown price. €30 for a return ticket, wow, probably it was just a special offer and I was lucky.
