Yep Liverpool let Fabio Carvalho go out on loan he was ramped up to be up there! Lavia goes to Liverpool he won’t get much game time now with the players they’ve bought! Think he better of looking at West Ham and when he has developed even more he could make another move..

It will be interesting to watch what goes on in the dipper midfield next season. If Lavia goes there they will effectively have a completely new midfield but I would expect Henderson and/or Fabinho to start quite a few games rather than all three new lads playing. With TTA maybe also moving into midfield in could be another transition season for those cheeky ragamuffins.

You're right although I'd have sworn we got him from PSG for some reason. It looks like training fees only to bring him here, so after 2 seasons at the club we could end up £24mill in profit for someone who would be at most a squad filler right now. I don't get the unhappiness from some posters.

genuine question, how is that kind of scary, both of those players last season looked like decent players in very poor teams, that doesnt necessarily make them great players, would you be saying the same thing if they replaced the midfielders from a 14th placed spanish team and a relegated french team. Both of them without a doubt good players, but scary?

Spot on, nothing scary about it. Arsenal fans were telling everyone before Feb/Mar that Partey was best midfielder in the PL, so whoever they got in was a downgrade (for AFC fans).

Lavia is a talent but can’t help think he’s overhyped. I think a few on this forum would look good compared to some of those Saints players last season. If he was THAT good he’d be at City.
 
Whilst ‘scary’ is a bit hyperbolic, it is at least a good start to remedying their main issues from last season - namely that their centre mid was softer than a soufflé with the brains of a single cell amoeba, which left their defence exposed when Saliba wasn’t there to hold it all together..

The key issue however is still that they don’t have a clinical striker, and Havertz certainly isn’t going to solve that problem for them.
 
I was seriously impressed by Lavia when he played for our EDS and he seems to have done well for Southampton but nevertheless they were relegated.
He has a lot of potential but is not ready, in my opinion, to be the main midfielder for a top 4 Premier League team. He would be better off going to a mid-table team where he will play every week than somewhere where he will be a squad player.
Given another couple of years experience he could become a player that could suit City or other top 4 teams but he is not there yet.
He also seems to be focussed entirely on himself rather than his team. He has used Anderlecht, City and now Southampton as stepping stones for his career. With his next move he needs to stay somewhere a bit longer to avoid being seen as a mercenary. I guess Saints getting relegated does give him a pass for seeking a move though.

It kind of irks me a little that when players get a pass to move when their team gets relegated, i understand why they do but theres a part of me that thinks hold on you were part of that team, you got paid, take some responsibility for it rather than just upping sticks and running cos you failed.

Eh? Anderlecht accepted an offer from City and he would’ve been nuts not to take the move.

City/Pep wanted Phillips and his rapid progression meant he had to go out and play and that progression has only continued - the idea he’s not ready for a top 4 team is rather countered by Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and United all talking to his agent this summer.

It seems with Lavia that many would rather talk him down than accept that Pep is a genius but not infallible and got this one wrong.
 
But wasn't it Lavia's choice to go? It's well known that Pep doesn't keep players that want to go (assuming a good offer is made) so why has Pep got this wrong? It seems as though the move to Southampton worked out for everyone.
Lavia got valuable experience and game time
Southampton will get a profit when he moves on
City got a good fee with, probably, a sell on fee.
