Romeo Lavia

Ideally it will be better for him to stay one more year at southampton, develop his game and wait for us to activate his buy back option. May be saints need money from his sale or he thinks he is too good for championship.
Its not better for him to go arsenal as he will not be able to gain more game time. Next year we will know the full potential of phillips and who knows lavia can be our top midfielder.
If he goes to arsenal that means he is not serious about returning to us. Ideally the idea about lavia was he develop his game at saints in two years and we buy him the following year.
We do not buy players who do not want to come to us.
If he goes to arsenal that also means he is not respecting us.

If we don’t want him and he goes to arsenal how is he disrespecting us?

I want every professional footballer who conducts themselves well on and off the field to succeed.
That's a very noble statement but I suppose it depends on how one defines success. I for one did not want the Arsenal, Rag or Inter players to succeed unless success was measured in terms of finishing second.

Seems a strange one this, there's strong interest from every top club in England but it hasn't gone any further than that with anyone. Surely if any of that interest was genuine we'd of heard more about it by now? Get the feeling his agent is very busy.

his one season at the top level didn’t warrant a 50 mil tag, imo. It’s a big risk for clubs

Exactly, it’s like Sancho, there’s a fear of missing out on the next best thing. Clubs like to think they can get one over City by buying a player we deemed not good enough.
Can anyone name a player we let go that down the line we have seriously regretted after they joined another club in our league and set the world alight? We’ve never had a Chelsea and Kev situation that I can immediately think of, it just rarely ever happens.

Don't tempt fate !
With City's excellent Academy, one of the released youngsters is almost certainly going to bite us on the arse.
Perhaps Trippier could be considered a mistake ?

The best PL player that left City recently is probably Milner.

Do you really think so? Some players do seem focussed on short term goals and do well from it. Tevez is the obvious example that springs to mind. Unlike Foden, Palmer or McAtee, Lavia does not have any affinity with the club that would have made him stick around on the fringes.

He obviously wants to play first team football at the highest level as soon as he can. It has been a successful strategy for him so far and I think he will have a good career but a move to a "big 6" club might stall that progress for a while as he may not be first choice.

I think he probably did better at Southampton than City anticipated and is seeking a move before the buyback clause kicks in.

With hindsight it is easy to point to the lack of success of Kalvin-Philips and say Lavia should have stayed at City but that was difficult to predict.

In an ideal world he would have spent last season on loan at Southampton rather than having a permanent move and he could be joining City's squad for the coming season or we could be banking £50M for him.
I’ve no idea about the buy back clause but I’m guessing there’s a hefty sell on fee for us if he’s sold before the clause kicks in.

Timing is also just off for Lavia

Chelsea and Liverpool could deffo use Lavia, but they probably want a more finished product as there aregaps in their first XI, spending £50mil on Lavia doesn't make sense unless you think he goes straight into the XI which for those 2 clubs he hasn't shown he can

Arsenal were the same, hence why they opted for Rice as he's the more polished product even if Lavia COULD be better in the long term

We haven't really got space/game time for him

And Untied probably the most likely to share time or play alongside Casemiro but they are spending money on other positions

Even teams like Villa/West Ham/Brighton who have europa aspirations will think £50mil for a 19 year old is too risky

I agree, it will happen one day but will be bad/ good.

The academy is a money maker as much as anything else and if someone buys one for £20 million that becomes a £100 million player, it will encourage more clubs to buy our youth.
