Every major club in Europe.

Find me one club who has failed to bring though a young player into their squad/team. Just one.

Over to you.

We're an (almost) unique club in that we've gone from being a struggling Premier League side in serious financial straits to one of the World's richest, and our squad has improved dramatically. The youth players we had in or around the club, at all levels, when ADUG took over, simply weren't good enough for where City's first team had suddenly been thrust. To replace the entire youth squad setup, as well as improve the facilities, coaches etc is a lengthy process, it's a little harsh to claim we don't bed in youth players simply because we haven't so far. If the situation persists in another 4 or 5 seasons then I think the argument would hold far more water than currently.

I'm happy to agree with this, all things considered.

You make too much sense.

And by all accounts would have walked on a free at 20.
And on top of that, if he'd signed for a foreign club, we'd have received a pittance thanks to a lack of tribunal. This would represent an excellent fee. It's a shame, but it's not entirely unsurprising given that he didn't sign an extension yet.

Here ya go @BlueDeadHead, expand your mind instead of being a sad, little troll.

"This was [most of] the post I made with regards to the academy when people were foaming at the mouth at Otamendi signing;

In this instance I personally feel Lopes hasshown more than enough to merit a chance and again believe that he's not only capable of getting a match here and there but also taking that chance with both hands. Which is why I find it disappointing, I don't find that anunrealistic expectation.

Yes he's gotten a great move but Lopesis/was one of our prospects primed for the first team imo and it's sad to see how it's played out."

he's only played five times for the first team which none of them showed he was worthy of displacing anyone in our first 11 so i take it, it was his loan move that swayed you?
who does he displace and when do you play him would be my question

I like Lopes, think he will become a good player, but will he ever be good enough for the quality we have now? I don't think so. £7.5m is a great price

Summed up perfectly.

Can't disagree with that.

My question is why we failed to make him think we were a viable place for him to continue as a fotballer & how we stop that happening to others.
The fact of the matter is. We've progressed a lot as a club since the day we could allow a youngster time to bed into the first team. The weight of expectation on the club as a whole is having a detrimental effect on the ability to bring youngsters through. I'll stand by the fact that if any youngsters were good enough they'd play. Lopes isn't good enough at the moment but if he isn't confident enough to sign a new contract and prove to the club that he will be doesn't that say more about his character than the club as a whole. The only way we could have convinced him we were a viable option was to offer him more first team games or a more lucrative contract the kind of contact sturridge was demanding. Gone are the days that we'd throw huge contracts at a player who isn't deserving. We offer the player a contract that reflects his worth to the club if he isn't prepared to accept that it is up to him to prove he is worth more by possibility going out on loan or proving it in training. We are an attractive prospect especially considering the whole CFA but no longer is a player doing us a favour by turning out week in week out for us. It is up for them to prove they deserve a place in our squad

That's just an excuse tbh.

If we didn't have some of the most talented kids in Europe, then I'd agree, but we do do & we are currently showing no signs of even considering bringing them through as other clubs have done with theirs.

He's played just five times but to my recollection he has 1 goal and 2 assists. Yes, his performances for Lille showed more than promise.

There's no reason why he couldn't have been a mainstay in a Capital One/FA Cup squad since he's been around the first team. Again, Sinclair got more games, Rodwell, Pantilimon etc all got a chance despite not being better than most in their position. It's not just now, this team he has to beat out but back in 2012/13 when he was around the first team there's been more than 5 chances to give him a game.

It's disappointing how it has come to this, not that he should be playing against Watford this weekend.

so what you are saying kelchi being on the bench for the first 3 games is a token gesture

we are going round in circles he isn't good enough to start league games and in my opinion the occasion sub appearance and cup games is not enough for him now
