Rooney and Webb

The amount of nonsense that gets posted on here is quite beyond belief. For a good 70 minutes of the game all the decisions went our way. The Nastasic booking at the start and the last 10 minutes they were getting the decisions but for the most part we had pretty much every decisions go our way. Some people post like they've not even watched the game.
I went to the game and I thought Webb was OK, but he should have booked Rooney well before he did. He didn't give us all the decisions for 70 minutes though, that's utter bollocks.

The title of this thread should give you a clue as to its theme.

How anyone watching that game can arrive at the conclusion that Rooney wasn't indulged by Webb is deluded or willfully blind. There must have been at least eight occasions where Rooney remonstrated with Webb in an aggressive, petulant fashion. Yaya does it too and quite rightly gets booked for it from time to time. Rooney, however, never seems to. His booking came a foul too late, at the very least, but fair enough, Nastasic apart Webb was trying to keep bookings to a minimum, I have no problem with that; but once he's booked Rooney it seemed that Rooney felt he had carte blanche to question every decision with out any fear of picking up a second yellow.

What does that tell you?

Bollocks - name the decisions that Webb gave in our favour that he shouldn't have done? Nastsic's booking was a joke, done early in the game as well so he had to walk a tightrope. Rooney should have been booked at least 3 times before he was booked, and about 10 times afterwards for dissent - he got away with murder, always does, always will

I think the one thing that stood out to me watching it back is when the commentator said that due to past experience, webb rightly turned his back and walked away from rooney, surely it should be the other way round, at no point should webb have to walk away or explain anything to rooney or be matey with the players.

He is their to officiate the game and due to the very nature of that game one set of fans and players will not be happy with his decisions and one set of fans and players will and sure in the hindsight of the game with video replays refs maybe should make statements but during the game they should not be explaining to the players they should be officiating them.

At what point in my post did I say Rooney should never have got booked?!? He should've seen a card far sooner than he did in my opinion. But in the fouls/corners/throw-ins side of it we got the lions share of the decisions, I agree that in past derby games when Webb has officiated he has seemed to favour that lot but yesterday wasn't one of them.

You said that for 70 minutes we got all the decisions. That's wrong, he was fair in the most, saying he gave us all the decisions makes it sound like he favoured us - wrong. As I said, he was OK yesterday, apart from his love-in with Rooney. It's about time someone stood up to Rooney, but it won't happen in this country. Hopefully he'll try that nonsense at the World Cup and get his marching orders.

Try reading the thread title before you post, mate.

webb was a disgrace early on and he definitely gave rooney more chances than any other player, and yes it was doing my head in...but after nasty got an early yellow he didnt deserve, i think webb let him off with a second yellow for that blatant body check late on.

There's no doubt Webb did indulge Rooney in the first half. That said, having already booked him, he could have sent Nastastic off for the foul on Wellbeck that led to the Rooney goal. So all in all an acceptable display from Webb.
