Rooney (MERGED)

if this did happen it would be sacrilege not to replicate the welcome to manchester campaign

I dunno, it was a one-off that got worldwide attention, a masterpiece of marketing really, especially if you watched that youtube video about all the awareness it raised and how the poster style became iconic etc.

whereas if we do it again we just look like the petty club who does this all the time.

I think it was a one-off thing that shouldn't be attempted to reproduce.

Perhaps do something else - unveiling to a full stadium maybe?

Just seen this posted by a friends friend on facebook.....this guy is a utd fan as well......

You know I work for a national newspaper...

Well, we have a very expensive lawyer come in every day to read the whole thing before we go to press to make sure we are legal.

I was chatting with him today and he told me that his 'reliable' source told him that Rooney has already been sold and will be gone in the first week of January.

Not to City, not to Real Madrid but to...

Chelsea.

My beloved United have an interest payment to make in January and Rooney pays it, apparently.

I was told the deal has been done for two weeks and it's because he and the boss have fallen out over smoking, pissing up nightclub walls and shagging hookers.

We shall see in January so watch this space.

could just be bullshit but chelski are the only others who really can afford him in the prem and who would utd rather sell to?..think it would be a tough choice...us or chelski?????

apologies if it's been posted on here loads of times already.

City, in turn, have decided they should do everything they can to take advantage of the player's breakdown in relations with Sir Alex Ferguson. Brian Marwood, City's football administrator, has a long‑standing relationship with Rooney's adviser, Paul Stretford, and close ties with the player, having previously worked in a senior position at Nike, one of Rooney's sponsors.

This is happening people

I'm finding it really difficult to describe my emotions right now. My initial reaction was "fuck no," but as the hours have passed, i've warmed more and more to the idea. It would be the most astonishing football transfer EVER. I've always considered him to be synonymous with the rags, which was the main source of my initial feelings towards this potential move. But in reality, he is Everton through and through, and he's fallen out with Bacon Face. So maybe he's not so synonymous with the rags afterall. Also, the likes of Schmeichel, Andy Cole and Tevez gave/give their all for City, and became well respected/liked by the fans very quickly. It really wouldn't take long for the fans to change their tune. If you see a player busting his gut for the cause, you grow to like him, no matter what his past was. That's how football fans are! Even if the player's a knob head, he becomes "our knob head" and his past is brushed under the carpet as long as he puts a shift in and plays like he cares. I get the impression that Rooney would certainly play like he cared, that's how he is. He is English and only 24 years old. This should also be a key consideration. The likes of Lescott, SWP and Bridge will eventually leave for first team football over the coming seasons, and our number of first team "home grown" players will start to dwindle. We are going to have to add more young talented English players to the likes of Milner, Adam Johnson and Joe Hart. Also, Barry wont be around forever. So from that point of view, signing Rooney would be brilliant. He's a top class player that's also home grown. Generally speaking, you have to go for those kind of players when they become available. They are like gold dust. I can't help but feel that if we can tempt Rooney to quit the rags for City, there is literally nothing we can't achieve. I am quite happy to go on record as making the move over to the "yes" camp. I would love this to happen, i really would.
