Rooney (MERGED)

I'm finding it really difficult to describe my emotions right now. My initial reaction was "fuck no," but as the hours have passed, i've warmed more and more to the idea. It would be the most astonishing football transfer EVER. I've always considered him to be synonymous with the rags, which was the main source of my initial feelings towards this potential move. But in reality, he is Everton through and through, and he's fallen out with Fergie. So maybe he's not so synonymous with the rags afterall. Also, the likes of Schmeichel, Andy Cole and Tevez gave/give their all for City, and became well respected/liked by the fans very quickly. It really wouldn't take long for the fans to change their tune. If you see a player busting his gut for the cause, you grow to like him, no matter what his past was. That's how football fans are! Even if the player's a knob head, he becomes "our knob head" and his past is brushed under the carpet as long as he puts a shift in and plays like he cares. I get the impression that Rooney would certainly play like he cared, that's how he is. He is English and only 24 years old. This should also be a key consideration. The likes of Lescott, SWP and Bridge will eventually leave for first team football over the coming seasons, and our number of first team "home grown" players will start to dwindle. We are going to have to add more young talented English players to the likes of Milner, Adam Johnson and Joe Hart. Also, Barry wont be around forever. So from that point of view, signing Rooney would be brilliant. He's a top class player that's also home grown. Generally speaking, you have to go for those kind of players when they become available. They are like gold dust. I can't help but feel that if we can tempt Rooney to quit the rags for City, there is literally nothing we can't achieve. I am quite happy to go on record as making the move over to the "yes" camp. I would love this to happen, i really would.

Exactly, happened with Bellamy and will happen with Rooney (if he comes)

what i dont like is it would be 2 ex-rags, tevez and rooney, that would deliver us a trophy.

that would forever taint it for me that we had to rely on 2 of our rivals players to get us that long awaited silverware, that we couldnt build it or do it ourselves.

For me, that's not a price worth paying, Tevez should be a one-off, Rooney should never, ever wear a city shirt and i will question my loyalty to the club if they buy him, it's just wrong on so many levels.

The noisy neighbours have just turned the volume up again. "Look, it goes all the way to eleven"

I've still got very mixed feelings about this deal though. On the one hand you'd be crazy not to want the player that Rooney was last season. On the other I'm not sure I like the thought of cheering the fat headed piece of red shite on.

Fuck it, sign him. It'll be a laugh watching Fergie and the fans shitting themselves and going all bitter again.

Even if this doesn't happen, I can't believe such an unprecedented transfer is being so widely speculated.

Am I going out on a limb by saying this: if Rooney joins us, the only team that stand in our way of European dominance is Barcelona.

you're so far ahead of yourself...

i dunno if i could watch if he signed, it's 1 step too far.

Couldn't agree more mate. He embodies everything that I hate about the Scum - that smug, sneering, posturing yet nevertheless completely vacuous bravado that they all try and carry - I can't stand the sight of the guy.

Tevez, whilst he played for the rags, never carried himself like this - he plays the game with an unpretentious enthusiasm and joy that makes him easy to get behind and support.

Rooney is a Rag through and through - I'm thinking of Cuntona and Beckham preening like they think they're top swan - trying to puff their chests out and look intimidating, whilst just coming across as looking pompous and a bit silly. Shrek has all that down to a tee. They've made him like that. I remember watching an interview with him when he was still at Everton, and he was nervous as fuck - came across as really humble and genuine. The rags have got rid of all that from him.

Seeing him in blue would be like looking at Keane in blue. Like looking at Gary Neville in blue. I just couldn't bear it.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the fantastic opportunity this has given me to wind up the rags i know, who are edgy as fook at the moment, but the thought of him actually playing for us makes me feel sick. Tevez was never a rag - he just played for them once. Rooney is a rag - through and through.

Good post.

Rooney would be Bellamy all over again. He'd win almost everyone over by his workrate alone.

yes and in history it would be remembered as 2 ex rags who became city legends and moved to us because we were the better team!!!!

I can't believe some people don't want this. It would be an absolutely massive turning point for the club.

Hypothetical time now. Will Rooney play against us in the derby?

If he doesn't then the question is answered, if it's not answered before that date and if he does play will he pull his tripe out against us?

I think we've won the 'mind games' on Slur Alex on this one already with just under a month to go.
