One question a few on here need to ask themselves is would they be getting quite so creamed up if this good but not great player played for Arsenal or Spurs?

He looks to me like a guy who doesn´t have a natural fitness like say a Beckham. So we may already have seen the best of him. Throw into the mix how his arrival might upset Tevez and its a definite no from me.

Better strikers around? Plenty. Villa. Higuain, dare I say it Ronaldo, Dzeko, Eto'o, Fabiano. Not to mention two we already own, Carlos and Mario.

In the summer we saw how good our English stars are. ie not very.

So lets enjoy United´s demise but please don´t lets bite our nose of to spite our face by buying this rather shop soiled individual.

I do respect the opinion, but Villa, Eto'o, Fabiano, all the wrong side of 29.

Higuain is untried outside of Spain. Dzeko, I give you that one.

But Rooney is only 24 and you cannot dispute he is in a small minority of top players who have proved their worth in the Premier League.

This is even without the commercial possibilities and recognition the club would receive.
i agree not to mention the damage it would cause to the rags, fan fury would be only the start of their problems.
i strongly think their attendance will start to drop off and the lack of superstars must surely see a drop in their revenue streams. trouble ahead me thinks.

It this was an in form Rooney playing the kind of football we know he's capable of, then despite his horrible, horrible attitude/demeanor etc I probably would have him here.... But it isn't, he's struggling for form, fitness and his personal life is a mess.

The best bit of business we've done in relation to that lot from old trafford is signing Tevez, because whatever we paid for him, not a penny of it went to united and we got an undoubtedly world class player.

Tevez has been on fire for us, and I don't want to see his position undermined IF we were to sign Rooney. (Out of interest, does anyone know how united did when Tevez partnered Rooney up front, ie, win a lot of games, did they both score etc) Balotteli is still to come back from injury so it remains to be seen where he will fit in in Mancini's master plan.

I just think there's too many reasons why its too risky, not to mention the thought of helping them in any way to pay off even a tiny amount of their debt.

Rooney's not the brightest and pretty stubborn, he risked the wrath of the Everton fans to move to united, he's been a boo boy at various grounds and now he has seemingly fallen out with the drunken one. He might be receptive to the move, but I think if he's to leave it will be to go abroad and I think that would be the best outcome for us.

I think this could happen in January !

The clock is ticking - Rooney is not going to sign a contract extension and United will be shitting themselves that he will run down his contract.

And I don't think he will cost anything like £50m. He only has 18 months left on his contact !!!!

Fair enough. Although I reckon Villa and Eto'o are marvellous athletes. I feel Rooney´s physique will deteriote rapidly. He looks much older than he is and the body will follow and soon. Whether this is due to lifestyle or simply that he matured too quickly I don´t know.

As to your last point if we want recognition lets bid for Fabregas or someone of that ilk.

to untied fans yes, to the glazers no.

Exactly. Make no bones about it, money will talk in this transaction.

The Glazers will sell to the highest bidder, no doubt.

Now who might that be...!?!?!?

I said on another thread (and still firmly believe) that they have not offered him a great contract because they want to cash in....lets not forget that under the new terms of the financial restructure, the glazers will now pocket 50% of profits from any player sale.....this way they get to cash in without taking any of the flak for it.....

Lets not forget this is rooney's PR putting these rumours about, ie. angling for a better deal...

I take it you've heard something then Tolmie?

I was yesterday made privvy to the origins of the leaks...as a result...it's hard not to feel a little giddy and look a couple of moves ahead.

Worst case scenario, our most hated enemy loses their only world class player to another club.
Sounds like he wants out then, i'd piss myself if he came to us

Best case scenario, we win the league at Old Trafford with two of their heros running amok.

I'm salivating.
