I remember Jon Macken scoring against us from the half way line at Preston. That's what prompted Keegan to buy him. I think it was on a bank holiday Monday - another away day that I can't remember that much about cos I got so leathered.

That's the one - thanks for the reminder. Was it on a bank holiday Monday though? It's bugging me now. I seem to remember that their fans were giving it large to 'Hey baby' by DJ Otzi but that might have been the following year or the year before lol

A tad harsh.

At least Macken run his bollocks off for us every time he played, he scored the odd goal (the Rags, decider at Spurs in the great comeback) and for those reasons I have slightly warmer memories of him than I do of RSC.

Don't get me wrong, RSC is a wonderful player. Seriously.

But you and I and everyone else knows he's fire sale goods now.

In all seriousness, I think he'll come good when he's fully fit with games under his belt.

Besides the worst transfer we've ever done has gotta be Sameras ;)

Fair comment. Well made.

But I think you missed my point!

By agreeing he'll come good when he's had "some games"... you are simply agreeing with me that we shouldn't have bought him in the summer, that we should have waited till January. Yes?

Because since us signing him in June, some 5 months ago, he's not exactly been value for money now has he?

We should have waited.

Samaras didn't cost 18mil.....

But Santa Cruz hasn't had 42 apperances.

was only joking, i actually think RSC is a cracking player he is just woefully short on fitness and more importantly he has no faith whatsoever in his knees and consequently is frightened of twisting or turning sharply.

as has been said already there is no way we should have signed him in the summer, this is backed up by the fact that Hughes is scared of playing him in the reserves in case he breaks down and therefore has the finger pointed at him for being so desperate to sign a crock.

I can see why you say that, but I suppose Hughes was scared to lose him, just incase another team came bidding in. But yes, if we had the chance, should've waited until January to sign him, maybe sign some sort of pre-contract agreement for him to come in January... but Fat Sam probably wouldn't have played him to let him get fit anyway if he knew that!

We should have kept Big Phil. We had a powerhouse of a striker there who could score goals. Now we've paid 18m for a Croque who can't run, jump or turn.

All those people on here who called Big Phil slow must look at Croque and and think their dreams have come true!

Good to see everyone getting behind the new signing & wishing him well, hoping he scores loads of goals & not making up insulting nicknames for him before even giving him 4-5 games to settle in. After all slagging off a player after one or two starts would just make us a bunch of crap supporters who don't deserve success wouldn't it?

All I know is he's not the anaswer to our dreams. And to be honest after watching him at Birmingham I do not think that he will be capable of playing 4 or 5 games. Like I said earlier in the thread I think he's carrying a permanant injury and he knows it. His body language is not one of a predatory striker and we can wave bye bye to scoring goals if the plan is to bang long balls to him cos he's nowhere near good enough at the moment.

Cant see why waiting to Jan would have been a smarter move? He would then have had to come in and learn how to play with the team and fit it etc, based on this theory we would have to say Robinho been bad buy as he has barely played for us this season
